"Mmm?" The guard outside spoke. "Your trial begins in one hour. I hope you have a good lawyer." Zagro stood, befuddled. His trial had been scheduled a couple of days from now, just how long had he slept? "Where am I supposed to get a lawyer? I've been locked in a cell!" Although he wasn't visible, Zagro just KNEW the guard was smirking. "That's for you to figure out. I've got money on you being guilty, why should I help you?" Puffers glanced up, and smiled. "Jiggly jiggly!" Zagro glanced over at her. "I don't know what you're so happy about, I'm about to be framed, and probably jailed." Puffers just grinned. She had a plan. Two hours later, the court was just starting. Zagro, sitting lawyerless, had nothing to do but watch as the prosecution laid their papers on the table. Their grins were unsettling. The judge came in shortly, and whacked the gavel across his desk. "This court is now in session. Defendant, have you found a lawyer?" Zagro took a deep breath, but as he was about to answer, Puffers hopped up from his chair and onto the table. "Jigglypuff!" The courtroom stirred as the crowd whispered, and the judge hit his gavel on the stand again. "Order! Defendant, your lawyer is a Jigglypuff?" Zagro blinked... "I guess so." The prosecutor rose from his chair. "Objection, your honor. You can't use a lawyer nobody can understand." "Sustained. Defendant, do you have a translator?" "Uh... no." The judge started to speak again, but got no further than "Then I'm afraid..." when Puffers began to sing. Zagro, having been through this before, plugged his ears. As the courtroom fell to dreamland, the judge sleepily pulled an alarm, and a guard rushed in. "Stop, in the name of.. *yawn*... Cubone, go!" With this, the guard threw a Pokeball, and fell asleep. Puffer wasn't finished yet. While Zagro fumbled to release his Caterpie, she hopped to the judge's desk and stole the gavel. She beat the judge in the head with it, and ran to join Caterpie. Cubone, unsure of what was going on, saw an entire courtroom asleep and a confused man calling out a Caterpie. He decided that he must be the target and attacked. He wasn't very well trained at fighting without a master, but Zagro didn't know what he was doing either, so it was a fair fight. "Umm... Caterpie, use... what do you have?" Caterpie, trying to understand the order, guessed at what his master meant and used String Shot. (it was a 50/50 chance, after all) Cubone started to throw his bone but found it stuck to his hand. Zagro smiled. "Wow, great attack! Caterpie, you're so cool!" "PUFF!" Zagro cringed. "Uh... yeah, Puffers, you are cool too. Caterpie... uhh... do it again!" After a few more rounds of this, Cubone was so covered in goo that he couldn't budge. "Caterpie, return! Puffers, we'd better get out of here before anyone wakes up." Indeed, even as they were running outside, the crowd was beginning to stir. In minutes, the whole Pewter Police Force was out looking for Zagro. Led by Puffers, though, Zagro was already far away from the city. That evening, Zagro, Puffers, and Caterpie were sitting around a campfire. They had no map and no idea of where the next town was, but they'd find it eventually. And maybe the police would have calmed down by the time Zagro came back to get a badge. "Caterpie, what should I name you?" "Caterpie?" "No, something more original." "Cater? Pie?" "Really? Well, if you insist..." "Caterpie!" "OK, I'll call you Caterpie!" Puffers groaned and went to sleep.
