From: Laeophie <laeophie@aol.comeleon> Subject: [PW!] Dragon Master (Or, how I learned to stop worrying about becoming Pokémon League Champ) Date: Sunday, May 09, 1999 5:35 PM Sirius pushed open the door and walked through the long hallway. At the end was a huge arena. The walls were covered in engravings of ancient Dragon Pokémon. Lance was calmly sitting down. "I don't usually stay here, as I barely ever get challengers, but I was expecting you to get here," he said. "I challenge you." Sirius's heart was pounding. If he lost, he would have to start all over again against Lorelei. "Special rules: We'll each use six Pokémon. You can only switch if you've just defeated one of my Pokémon or if your Pokémon has lost. Whoever wins more matches wins the battle. If there is a tie, the outcome will be determined by our last match. Ready?" Sirius nodded. "Gyarados, go!" "GRAAAAAR!" Lance's Gyarados was over 25 feet high, in contrast to Sirius's 21' long Gyarados. Sirius was amazed at its size. What Pokémon could he use? He was planning on using Reis last, and she was the only one with an electric attack. "Go, Aerodactyl! Watch out for Hydro Pump!" cautioned Sirius. "AEEEERRRRROOOOO!" "Gyarados, use Hydro Pump and Dragon Rage combined!" Gyarados growled, lowering its head. It slithered around in a circle, quickly accelerating. Aerodactyl waited. Within moments, Gyarados has created an insanely huge twister. Gyarados let it go. It spun quickly towards Aerodactyl. Gyarados threw back its head and shot out of its mouth a high-pressured blast of water into the cyclone. "AAAEEEERRRROOOO!" screamed Aerodactyl again. It was struggling to avoid being sucked in. Sirius was speechless. He winced as Aerodactyl was battered against the wall by the raging watery wind. It sunk to the ground, on the verge of fainting. Lance grinned out of the corner of his mouth. "Aerodactyl, Wing Attack!" Sirius had been losing early in the match three times already. Aerodactyl swooped down to Gyarados and ripped its wing across its body before it could react. Aerodactyl continued to assault Gyarados was constant Wing Attacks while charging up Hyper Beam. "Gyarados, fight back! Bite it!" Gyarados lunged for Aerodactyl's wing. Instead of being caught, Aerodactyl slammed its wing straight into Gyarados's face and fired Hyper Beam. Gyarados was driven back to the wall. The screeching sound of the beam shook both Lance and Sirius. When it was over, Gyarados was covered in cuts and was badly burned. "Gyarados, return! I guess you've won the first match, Sirius, but my Pokémon are still stronger in the long run. Dragonair, go!" "Dra! Dra!" Dragonair sprang into the air after it was released. "Aerodactyl, return! Marowak, I choose you! Bonemerang, now!" "Maro maro marowak wak!" Marowak, without any hesitation, began to spin the bone in his hands. "Slam, Dragonair!" yelled Lance. The much faster Dragonair reached Marowak in barely a few seconds, slamming its thin body into him. Marowak was hit hard and dropped his bone. Dragonair picked the bone up in its mouth and threw it back to Lance. "Don't worry, Marowak. Use Skull Bash!" Marowak lowered his head, ready to strike Dragonair if it made a move. Dragonair remained still. Marowak, in a quick, sudden movement, surged towards Dragonair's head. Dragonair curled its long body into a loop and raised its head. Marowak missed and landed under Dragonair. Dragonair tightened the loop, wrapping Marowak. Marowak tried to wiggle out, but soon abandoned the effort. He shook his head at Sirius in apology. "Its OK, Marowak. Return!" "Dragonair, return! Now the match is tied," stated Lance. "Dragonair, go!" "Dra, Dra! Dragonair air dra!" "Aw... another one?" Sirius frowned. "Seadra, go!" "Sea! Seadra!" squealed Seadra. She looked around for water but found nothing. She glared at Sirius. "Sorry... You'll have to fight on land." Seadra sweatdropped. She had never won on land before, and it didn't seem all too likely for that to change against Lance's powerful Dragonair. "Sea..." she mumbled. "DRA!" Dragonair growled. "SEA!" She frantically hopped away and hid behind Sirius. "Come on, Seadra!" "Sea!" She shook her head firmly. "Come on!" he begged. Seadra shook her head again. She knew she didn't have a chance. She was a water type, and had a disadvantage against the more experienced Dragonair. Sirius realized this. He remembered Lance's Aerodactyl. He could have saved her until then. He meekly turned his head at Lance, who was impatiently waiting. "Uh... Dad? Can I use a different Pokémon instead of Seadra?" "Huh? You've already sent out your Pokémon. Rules are rules." "Damn... Seadra, just give it your best shot, alright?" "Sea!" she squirted ink into Sirius's eyes. "Fine!" he angrily returned Seadra to her Pokéball while wiping off the ink. "You lost that one, Sirius." "Yeah, yeah." "Dragonair, return! Aerodactyl, go!" "AAAAEEEEEERRRRRRROOOOO!" The familiar sound screeched in Sirius's ears. "I guess Gyarados would be the next best thing. Gyarados, go!" Sirius threw the Pokéball up into the air. Gyarados materialized on top of Aerodactyl. "Uh oh." Under Gyarados's tremendous weight, Aerodactyl fell into the floor. Gyarados slithered off and looked for its opponent. Aerodactyl was unconscious inside a small crater. "I won!" cheered Sirius. Lance was fuming. "That was probably against the rules, but I'll let it slide since I didn't let you return Seadra. Aerodactyl, ret..." Aerodactyl weakly lifted a wing. "Ha! It's still conscious. Aerodactyl, now use Take Down!" "Gyarados, spray it with some water!" Gyarados filled the crater with water. Aerodactyl was drowning underneath, too weak to fly out. "Aerodactyl, NOW return. Go, Hot Head!" "CHAAAAAR!" "Where did you get that Pokémon, anyway?" questioned Sirius. "I'm borrowing it. Hot Head has a huge amount of experience, so don't underestimate it." "Gyarados, return! Charizard, go!" "CHAAAAR!" "Hot Head, time for Flamethrower!" "Slash it, Charizard!" Before it could move, Charizard was hit by the heat of Hot Head's Flamethrower. Only a little hurt, Charizard took off into the air and swooped down past Hot Head, kicking its face. "CHAAAARRR!" Hot Head slash at Charizard, barely missing. Charizard turned around in the air and whipped its tail into Hot Head's body. Hot Head grabbed it and threw Charizard down to the floor. Charizard returned to its feet and blasted Hot Head with a Flamethrower attack. "Hot Head, Fire Spin!" Still taking heat from Charizard's flamethrower, Hot Head fired a circular flare out of its mouth. Charizard stopped and was blasted backwards. Hot Head finished it off with a slash. "Charizard, return!" "You'll have to win this last one to beat me," reminded Lance. "Hot Head, return! Dragonite, go!" Dragonite was twice as tall as Sirius. Sirius began to wonder whether or not Reis could handle Dragonite, who was her father. But now, Sirius didn't have a choice. TBC...
