Sandshrew awoke, literally, underneath a pile of slithering Ekans. He gasped for breath, but there was none. He was being smothered to death. He tried to push his way through, but there were too many Ekans. "Oh, no way am I getting squelched to death!" Sandshrew thought, and started beating his way out of the crowd of Ekans entirely surrounding him. Sandshrew's underground instincts helped him keep calm underneath the extremely claustrophobic blanket of Ekans, and he soon popped out victoriously. Standing upon the small heap, his eyes adjusted quickly and allowed him to examine his surroundings. From what he could see, he was in an average sized cavern, and looking upwards, he spotted the hole through which he had fallen. It seemed like merely an unimportant oval of yellow light, but he knew that somehow he needed to get back up there to Oz. A sudden jolt of slight pain made him realize an Ekans was biting into his leg. It was only a baby, as were most of the Ekans, so its poison sacs had not developed yet, fortunately. Reaching down, he pulled it off and threw clear across the cave. But more Ekans surged in and Sandshrew felt trapped. There were Ekans everywhere. The slim, limb-less Pokémon practically covered the entire ground and swarmed around Sandshrew. But most of them ignored a large, circular object not too far from Sandshrew's position. Throwing off the last of the Ekans, he dashed away from the pile and jumped inside the spherical vehicle. Throwing out a couple of inquisitive Ekans, he slammed the door shut. He noted that the pack of Ekans seemed to disperse, and now they were slowly making their way over to the vehicle. But they would present no threat to Sandshrew, he was safely inside. Although, something about the community of Ekans did trouble him. As he watched the wave of snakes approach, he confirmed that there was in fact, no fully grown parental Arboks in sight. They all seemed to be merely youngsters, not even capable of poisoning nor capturing their own food yet. He wasn't too sure about all Pokémon's social or maternal behavior, but he spotted Oz's backpack on the floor of the car. Scuttling over to it, he zipped it open, only to be surprised by an Ekans that leapt out of it. Before it could bite him, Sandshrew grabbed it violently, and threw it across the car. The Ekans went limp as it thudded against the far wall. It fell down onto the steering wheel, landing coincidentally onto the horn. The automobile immediately gave off a sharp, loud BEEP! The sudden, offending noise startled all the Ekans, not to mention the occupants of the automobile. Sandshrew took the opportunity to jump forward and throw the stunned Ekans out the door, slamming it shut once again. Looking through the windshield, he was shocked to see all the Ekans moving back away from the vehicle. Just a second ago they had been eager, bloodthirsty even, if it was even possible at such a young age. His eyes were drawn over to the nearest wall of the cavern. As he watched, several very, very large portions of the wall started to move. They soon formed into many distinct, gigantic, slithering shapes. The Ekans cleared a broad path for them, and panic slowly dawned on Sandshrew as the big, almost 10 feet tall, ominous figures slid across the cavern floor, directly towards the vehicle and its sole occupant. He had managed to find the Arbok parents. The full-grown, humongous, deadly, and rather pissed off Arbok parents. TBC? ~~~~~ Sandshrew not dead? Yay! Hey, but that means I wasted all that effort trying to write an emotional scene, and it was pointless! D'oh! Oh well, maybe he can get swallowed by the big, bad Arboks... la dee dah...
