[NS] Last time on PokeWars!…
>Between having a dragonite along and a Magnemite circling somebody’s

>The group made it through the ultra-modern metropolis with ease.
>Within ten minutes they had arrived at the Pokemon Center.
The Pokemon Center looked pretty much the same as before. The spacious
interior had a few more trainers than earlier that day, but they
appeared to be waiting to have their pokemon healed.
Jon told Damian “I’ll be over in front of the TV. Fill me in after you
talk to Nurse Joy, ok?”
Damian nodded his head in acknowledgement “No problem.” After this, he
and Drake proceeded up to the counter to wait for Nurse Joy.
After a few minutes of staring at the walls and waiting, both Damian
and Drake started to become bored. While Damian started to look around
and see if there was something interesting to look at while he waited.
Drake, however, decided to amuse himself with the situation at hand.
The dragonite carefully watched the Magnemite circling Damian’s head
for a minute. Then he shoved his head right into the path of the
Magnemite. Unfortunately, Damian had taken that exact moment to turn
in Drake’s direction. All he saw was something moving at his face
rapidly.
“YAH!” Damian fell back against the counter by reflex. The Magnemite
managed to keep a perfect orbit around Damian’s head as he fell back
and as he righted himself. “What was that for?” Damian demanded with
a hint of indignation in his voice.
The dragonite grinned and shrugged. “Yeah, well I realize that this is
boring, but –“ Damian was cut off as Drake once again shoved his face
right up to Damian and quickly pulled back, just in time for the
Magnemite to fly by.
“Wh-” Damian was yet again interrupted as Drake pushed his face in and
pulled back just before the Magnemite finished his orbit. This became
a regular pattern and finally Damian said “I’m sure this is really
amusing for you, but could you cut it out?”
Drake complied , but stopped as he was still up close to Damian.
“Thanks, but could you move your-” This time Damian didn’t stop
because something had just shot towards his face. Instead he was
looking at Drake and noticed that the dragonite was not looking at him,
but at the small magnetic pokemon. It had shifted its orbit to
accommodate the object in its path, namely Drake’s head.
“I’ve got an idea. When I say so, move back. Got it?” Drake slowly
nodded his response to Damian. Four eyes carefully watched the
orbiting metallic pokemon for several moments until finally Damian
shouted “Now!”
Drake pulled his head back just as the Magnemite was flying behind it.
The smaller pokemon fell back into its normal orbiting pattern around
the larger pokemon’s head. “Yes!” Damian raised an arm in triumph,
but it only stayed firmly raised as such for a second before there were
two rapid-fire flashes of light.
When the flashes of light faded, Damian once again started to
experience a periodic loss of vision. “I guess I wasn’t imagining that
teleport thing in the electronics store.” He groaned.
A few seconds later Nurse Joy came out from the back and called over
one of the trainers that had been waiting for their pokemon. After she
had given some pokeballs to the young girl she turned towards Damian
“Can I help-, oh no, don’t tell me that’s in style again!”
Damian asked “In style? What do you mean?” Nurse Joy’s expression
became much less so. “Every so often our city gets Pokemon fashion
trends. Some are just ways that people make up their pokemon, others
are times when it becomes fashionable for people to own certain pokemon
and have them perform popular tricks. I still remember the first one.”
Damian’s t-shirt read: “Not that! Not the tour! Anything but that!”
Whether it was what had just appeared on his t-shirt or the look of
boredom that instantly appeared on Damian’s face as Nurse Joy began to
recount the pokemon fashion trends of Celadon City, it could not be
determined. However, whatever the reason Nurse Joy stopped and came to
something relevant.
“The Magnemite trend was the last one that I’ve seen. Some of the
people who felt that they had to be fashionable started having these
pokemon circle their heads, using the pokemon like jewelry. Some of
these people made their fashion statement useful by teaching them
teleport, but even that wasn’t enough to keep the trend going for
long. After a while these people started to notice that no matter how
long they had a pokemon circling their head, it was still annoying.”
Damian interrupted Nurse Joy with a much-needed, at least he felt, “No
kidding!”
“After that,” she continued “most of the Magnemites were abandoned. It
seems like you picked one of them up. Let’s see if there’s an owner
registered to this one.” She reached under the counter and pulled out
a wand-like device. She aimed it at Damian and commanded him “Hold
still.”
Damian did as commanded and Nurse Joy typed a few keys on the computer
that the wand was attached to. After a moment the computer emitted an
audible beep.
Nurse Joy proceeded to lay out the situation “This Magnemite is
currently unregistered. If you don’t want to keep it, we can try to
capture it, but even if we do there can be a problem. If this one
decides it wants to stay with you, then it could end up tracking you
down by your magnetic pattern and start circling your head again. In
the alternative, if you decide to keep it, it could decide that it
doesn’t need to try as hard to please its master since it will already
feel accepted. Once it does that, it will probably stop circling your
head.”
It didn’t take long for Damian to decide. “I could either have the
possibility of having a Magnemite circling my head for the rest of my
life or have a loyal electric pokemon who’ll stop circling my head.
I’ll go with the getting a new pokemon option.”
Joy smiled “Do you have a name in mind to register it as?”
“No, but I’ll think of one.” Damian replied.
“I’m going to need your Pokedex. I’ll change the information in my
computer so you’re recognized as this Magnemite’s trainer. I can
transfer the record to your Pokedex, so no one else can capture it in a
pokeball. Your ‘dex will broadcast a signal that will keep it from
being captured by anyone else’s pokeball as long as your Magnemite is
nearby. You’ll still have to get it into a pokeball before other
pokedexes will recognize it as your, though.”
He passed his pokedex to Nurse Joy and it was returned to him within a
minute. After that Damian walked over to Jon with Drake in tow and his
newly registered personal satellite.
