Mithril-rama looked around the cave desperately. "I may have a water pokémon,
but Horsea's not going to stand up against this Dugtrio! It doesn't have enough
power to defeat it..." She runs through her other pokémon in her head.
Haunter, Venonat, Electabuzz, all weak to ground... what else? There's still...
Victreebel! A plant!
Rilli pulled out the pokéball and flung it to the ground. Victreebel
materialized, towering over even the abnormally large Dugtrio. "Use Razor
Leaf!" she commanded. The flytrap pokémon tilted its body and sprayed a flurry
of cutting foliage towards the moles. The Dugtrio screeched sharply as the
numerous leaves sliced all over its body. It quickly retreated underground and
out of the paths of the dangerous projectiles. Just as Victreebel veered around
trying to find where its opponent had gone, the Dugtrio popped up beneath it
with a vicious Dig attack, sending the plant a good five feet away into the mud.
Mithril-rama slapped her forehead. "Oh yeah, Victreebel's also part poison...
that Dugtrio could murder it!" She called out to her pokémon, "Vine Whip
attack!" But before the plant could act, the Dugtrio had already fainted it
with a Slash.
"Ack!" Rilli hurriedly recalled Victreebel and hopped back as the Dugtrio
headed towards her. "Come on, Horsea, it's pretty weak, you can finish it off!"
Horsea puffed up its cheeks and with the last of its moisture, blew a cloud of
Bubble at the Dugtrio. It managed to slow the Dugtrio down momentarily, making
it reel, but the persistent pokémon shook it off and continued towards its
target. Just before it came into Slashing range, Horsea spat a blob of ink over
its eyes, temporarily blinding the moles. The water pokémon turned in Rilli's
arms, looking for reassurance. Her trainer nodded firmly. "Just a little more,
Horsea, almost there..."
Inhaling deeply, the little seahorse closed its eyes and fired. A wide stream
of water washed over the Dugtrio, and it finally gave out. Uttering one last
"Trio!", it sank underground, defeated. The surrounding Digletts stared for a
moment in stunned silence, then chaos broke out. They had never seen their
champion lose before.
Rilli paid no attention to them, and hugged the exhausted water pokémon tight.
"Great job, Horsea! You finally learned Water Gun! That means you'll be
evolving soon!"
"Sea, sea," Horsea whinnied excitedly. Robert ran up and grabbed Rilli's hand.
"We better get out of here, while the other Digletts are distracted! If we
wait, they might start chasing us again!"
Choosing their steps carefully, Robert and Rilli ran through the muddy cave, not
bothering to look back. It was a thankfully short time before sunlight pierced
through the exit of the tunnel, and they collapsed onto the grasses by the
roadside, panting. Ahead, the city of Vermilion peeked over the horizon.
