He peddled as fast as he could and stopped at the nearest pokémon center. He walked in and saw all of the trainers with their variety of pokémon. He walked up to the counter. "Excuse me, Miss Joy? I was wondering if you could check the rank of my pokémon," Ian said as a he handed her his pokéballs. Nurse Joy scanned them in a little box and returned them. "Well, almost all your pokémon are all Class C. Your Gyarados is Class B," Nurse Joy said{if you don't know about the classes, check out the pokémon comic by Viz(www.viz.com)}. "Do you have a pokédex? I can update it for $5.00 if you'd like,"Nurse Joy said as she pulled out a little machine. Ian nodded, payed, and handed her the pokédex. "What's the difference in the new pokédex??" Ian asked anxiously. "Well, there are entries for new pokémon, such as Pikablu. But, these pokémon have been seen very rarely. You probably won't see them unless they are shown in a pokémon convention or something." Nurse Joy answered. Ian left, and headed straight for Pewter's Gym. He walked in, and went up to the front desk. He rang the bell and was greeted by the receptionist. "Hello! And welcome to Pewter City's Pokémon Gym. May I help you?"She asked. "Yeah, I want to challenge this gym's leader, Brock, for the Boulder Badge," Ian replied. He was shown the way to Brock's room. "Thank you, Judy, for bringing him here. Now, Ian, you want to train me for the Boulder Badge??" Brock asked. "Yeah. I hope it's not to weird getting challenged by a 10-year-old," Ian said. "Oh, no. Why, just a while ago, I was challenged by a Scyther who wanted a Boulder Badge," Brock said. "But, let's quit dawdling. Let's battle! Go! Geodude!" Ian sent out his Gyarados. Geodude attacked first with Rock Throw, and was countered with Hydro Pump. Geodude used Defense Curl, then tackle, but fainted when Gyarados used Bite. "Ok, Ian. Now it's your turn, Onix!" Brock said. His Onix looked like Gyarados' match. But, Gyarados attacked first with Tail Whip, then with Hyper Beam. Onix was down, but not out. He used Bide, and tryed his luck. But, Brock realized his mistake when Gyarados used Dragon Rage. Then, the battle was all over. "Well done, Ian! Here, take the Boulder Badge, and TM 34, which contains Bide,"Brock said as he shook Ian's hand. "Thanks Brock! I guess I'm going to go to Misty's Gym, now. See you around!" Ian said as he left the Gym. He checked his map, and found the quickest way to get to Cerulean was through Mt. Moon. So, he headed off on his journey to beat the next gym leader.
