The closer that Robert and Rilli get to Lavender Town, the more a light
purple fog fills the air around them. Robert
breathes in this air and sighs it out, used to it since he spent sixteen
years growing up in the environment, "Ahhh, the fresh
air of a beautiful town near the mountains... No more horrible smog,
like in the other large cities..."
"Yeah..." Mithril-rama absorbs some of the environment herself, "I wish
my parents didn't move around so much. I would
have loved to have lived in Lavender and grown up alongside you!"
"It's not *that* great..." Robert notes, glancing over at Rilli, "I
mean, all that traveling allowed you to learn more about the
world and about Pokemon. When I left this town, I didn't know anything
about the world around me, other than where
the Saffron City Super market was. You met good friends out there..."
Robert stops pondering this, when he remembers
about Quethiril... and her surprising death, "Anyhow, are you ready to
meet my mom?"
Mithril-rama thinks about what Robert's mom must look like, "I guess...
but aren't we going to go see Mr. Fuji first?"
"It's too late. I wouldn't want to bother him at home." Robert looks
around the area, realizing that he's unknowingly
walked into the Lavender Town limits while chatting with Rilli, "We'll
go to the Pokemon Volunteer House tomorrow.
Right now, let's go home! I'm sure you'll like my mom's home cooking!
And I get to show you my room!"
"Yay!" Rilli exclaims, overexcited about finally being able to sit down
after walking all afternoon long, "Are we almost to
your house yet?"
"Yes... In fact, here it is!" Robert looks over at his one story pink
house. It's not very decorated, but the moist green
grass in front has a red path leading up to a porch where some cheap
patio furniture rests. A gray female Persian with
black stripes leaps up from her resting place on the grass and runs over
towards Robert! He runs his hand down her
back, "Hello there, Kathy! I see you're glad I'm back home. Have you
been taking care of mom?"
"Purrrr..." The small Persian purrs, closing her eyes in bliss as Robert
pets her the right way.
"Cute kitty!" Mithril-rama smiles and reaches down to pet the strangely
colored Persian, but she hisses and runs away,
baring her teeth. Rilli backs away, "It looks like she doesn't like
me..."
Robert shakes his head slightly and watches as his mother's Persian sits
down far away from them, "She's just afraid of
strangers. Hey, at least she didn't Slash at you... so she must know
you're not here to cause trouble. Let's go inside."
Robert holds Rilli's hand and walks down the red path up to the porch.
He knocks on the door, "Mommy?"
"Mommy?" Mithril-rama asks, trying to not giggle.
Robert looks over at Rilli and lowers his eyebrows, "Hey, it's what I've
called her all my life! Mommy!"
The door to the house swings open, and before Robert can say anything,
his mother, who is shorter than him, starts to
hug him tightly. She has curly black hair, light brown eyes, and wears a
blue night robe that falls to her ankles. She starts
to speak in a scolding tone, even while she hugs him, "You've been gone
for 19 days! Nineteen days since you left! Why
didn't you ever call me?! Not even on your birthday, you didn't call me!
I thought you'd be coming home, so I bought
you a big ice cream cake and some presents, and you didn't even..."
"Presents?" Robert asks while trying to escape his mother's loving
grasp, "Ice cream cake?! YES!!! I love ice cream
cake! Do you still have it? Mmm... I'm hungry..."
"Robert!" She complains, since his response doesn't seem to imply that
he's missed her much, "I've missed you so so so
so much! Where have you been? What have you done?" At that moment, she
notices Mithril-rama, "And who's this?
Since when do you hang out with girls? You never even talked to a girl
at school... and now you're bringing one home?"
"Yeah... yeah...I miss you, too, mommy. I'll explain everything during
dinner. Oh, and this is Mithril-rama, but you can
call her Rilli. I always do!" Robert smiles and tries to shove his way
into his house. His mother goes in after him,
Mithril-rama enters, and Kathy the Persian leaps in just before the door
is shut.
The first room in the house's interior is the living room. There is a
round table, a white couch, and two arm chairs on
either side of the main table. The floor is wooden, but heavily carpeted
with light blue and dark red carpets. Kathy runs
over to her favorite red rug and stretches on it, yawing. Robert's
mother sits down at one of the arm chairs, and Robert
throws himself onto the couch, beckoning Mithril-rama to join him. Rilli
sits next to Robert, relieved to be finally sitting
down! Robert smiles, "So? What's been going on here?"
Robert's mother leans forward and starts to pet Kathy on the head, "Same
ol', same ol. Nothing new. But it hasn't been
the same without you here. Kathy's been the only companion I've had all
this time. I was too used to you being at home,
even though you were always in your room and never helped out with the
chores!"
"Yeah... Speaking of which, I want to show Rilli my room! Could you get
dinner ready for us?" Robert smiles, already
standing up off the couch and tugging Mithril-rama with him, "Call me
when it's finished! Also, dig up those presents you
got me! I can't wait to open them!" That said, Robert escorts his
girlfriend into his room, who's entrance is immediately to
the left of the entrance to the house. The door shuts quickly, and
Robert's mother sighs.
Robert flicks the light switch on, revealing horizontal brown drawers
with various cabinets on it. There's a large television
on top of the drawers and a Super Nintendo next to it. In front of the
TV is where his messy bed is located, half red and
half blue sheets still tossed about carelessly on top of it, not having
been organized since the day Robert left. To the right,
a large white table and chair is placed, where Robert's Compaq computer
is at, "Ahh, room sweet room! Take a seat!"
Mithril-rama falls on top of Robert's bed and lies there, very tired
from traveling all the way from Celadon to Lavender
Town in one day. Robert sits down at the edge of his bed, then notices
his Super Nintendo, "Hey, look! It's my Super
Nintendo! Hmm, Mankey Kong Country is still in it... That's a pretty
cool game, Rilli! Want to see?"
"Hmm... I'll see it later... " Mithril-rama sighs, snuggling against
Robert's two pillows, and staring at his teddy Slowpoke,
"Right now I need a break... my feet are killing me from all that
walking!"
"Is that so?" Robert asks, raising an eyebrow. He reaches down and pulls
off Rilli's sneakers and removes her socks. He
mockingly waves his hand in front of his face, "Woooo! Have you
considered Odor Eaters?"
"Hey! That's not funny!" Mithril-rama chuckles a little, looking over at
Robert, "Are you going to give me a massage?"
"Sure am! I was just kidding about the Odor Eaters, by the way, your
feet smell lovely! To me, anyhow... Then again,
everything about you is lovely to me!" Robert smiles as he places his
hands on one of her tiny feet, rubbing his fingers
deep into the hurting soles, "Hmmm... I'm pretty sure I've never
massaged your feet before, but this feels very familiar..."
"Yeah I know..." Mithril-rama answers, sighing at Robert's massaging
fingers, not remembering the time she was drunk
on Cinnabar with Robert, "It's as if we've done this before... but I'd
remember that..."
Robert loses himself in giving her the loving foot massage, taking her
other small foot and rubbing it with tender love and
care, remembering the time he turned down Bambi's offer to do the same
to her big feet. He smiles and lets out a happy
sigh, but then starts to feel that he's doing something wrong, "Does
this feel good, Rilli?"
"Yeah! Mmmmm..." She relaxes, smothering herself in Robert's covers,
"Feels *very* good! Thanks!"
"Oh, it's my pleasure!" Robert chuckles, taking both of her feet and
massaging them at the same time. Just then, Robert
hears footsteps, and the door starts to creak open, he tosses Rilli's
feet aside just as his mother walks in through the
door. He worriedly shouts out, "I'm not doing anything wrong, mommy!
Nothing at all!"
Robert's mother looks around the room, "Oh-kay, Robert, calm down. I
just came to tell you that dinner's ready!"
"Already?" Robert asks out loud, "I must've lost track of time... C'mon,
Rilli!" Robert takes Mithril-rama's hand and
leads her into the kitchen, who's walls are painted a very bright white.
Robert, his mother, and Rilli all take their seats
where the three plates full of delicious rice, beans, and pork chops are
put on the table.
Just as Robert starts to gorge his dinner, his mother asks, "So, what
have you been doing for these 19 days that I haven't
heard from you? You know, you could've picked up a telephone somewhere!"
"Mmm... Yeah... it's..." Robert swallows the food he has in his mouth
and continues to explain, "I left home with only
Haunter and Cubone... and I have eight new Pokemon now! Pretty good,
huh?"
"It's great! ...I think." Robert's mom scratches her head, "I never went
on a Pokemon Journey, but I've heard that some
people out there catch outrageous amounts of Pokemon, and you've only
caught eight?"
"Actually... I've only caught..." Robert pauses to think about those
Pokemon that have been given as gifts, mentally
marking off Slowbro and Charmeleon, "I've only caught six since I left
home... one was got in a trade and the other was
a gift. But it doesn't matter how many Pokemon you have! It just matters
whether or not you can get the badges. And
I've gotten five! Cascade, Boulder, Rainbow, Soul, and recently,
Thunder! They're here on my shirt!"
"Oh... I see..." Robert's mother looks at the black shirt, somewhat
uninterested, then turns her attention to Mithril-rama,
who's trying to remove a portion of pork from the bone, "But I'm more
interested in this girl you've brought home! The
very thought of you being with a girl is weird to me... While all the
other fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen year olds were out
partying, you were at home playing with your Super Nintendo and that
computer! What's your story, Rilli?"
Mithril-rama looks a little startled when she is brought up in the
conversation, since she thought that it would take Robert
a long time to tell his mother of his adventures, "Oh? Me? Well,
Mrs...?"
"Just call me Ludy." The curly-haired woman who slightly resembles her
son smiles, "Go on..."
