"On second thought," said Steve, "I think I'll go to the fighting gym now.
I'm sorry to leave on you like this, Karen, but good luck."
"I understand, Steve," Karen smiled as she watched him leave the room.
Steve took out his Pokedex and had it examine his new Jynx.
"Dexter, which moves does she know exactly?" he asked.
"Jynx knows the following moves," Dexter began, "Lick, Double slap, Ice Punch,
and Psychic."
"Psychic?" Steve repeated, a little more than impressed. "I'm glad I didn't
get ripped off."
He knew he was in for a long session up ahead and that his Jynx was in need of
serious practice. Unfortunately, Jynx's advantage as a psychic against
fighting types was canceled out because she was also part ice. Fortunately, if
things got too bad, the Pokemon Center was only a few minutes away in terms of
driving distance.
Steve chuckled at the location of the building. The fighting dojo was right
next to the psychic gym, perhaps symbolizing the ongoing question of brains
versus brute strength. The fighting dojo was all about developing physical
perfection and the psychic gym about mental perfection. In the end, the
psychic Dojo won. Feats of mind over matter had been used for thousands of
years.
And yet at the same time, there was something that united the two. An ongoing
harmony between body and soul. They were both here in Saffron for reason.
Call it fate, call it destiny, call it a mere coincidence.
Everything happens for a reason.
"Well," he sighed to himself, "here goes nothing..."
Steve walked into the gym and found everyone inside sitting in an orderly
manner.
"Hello there," Steve smiled, "I've come to train."
Everyone starred at him. Yep, this was going to be a long day indeed.
Steve's first opponent was a medium size muscular man. Like all the other
regulars who came to train in this Dojo, he was a black belt.
"For my Pokemon, I'll use my fighting Pokemon Machop!" he said.
"Fine," Steve responded calmly, "and I'll use Jynx."
Machop and Jynx stood on the mats, facing eachother. Jynx stood at about 2
feet taller and a heck of a lot uglier.
"Machop, focus energy!" the trainer yelled.
"Jynx, use your double slap!" Steve countered.
Machop began to meditate to himself and focus his inner power. That's when
Jynx ran over to him and began to slap the poor thing guy repeatedly.
Meanwhile, the black belt didn't flinch. He simply waited. And finally, after
he saw an opening...
"Machop, low kick! Now!"
"Ma-CHOP!!!!!" the tiny Pokemon yelled as it channeled all it's power into a
single blow which was powerful enough to knock Jynx across the room.
"Machop, karate chop!" the black belt continued. The 2' 7" Pokemon began to
run towards Jynx.
"Maaaaaaaa...." it began to scream as it approached. And just when it was
only a few feet away...
"Jynx, lick!" Steve suddenly yelled.
"JYNX!!!" the Pokemon responded as she suddenly revealed her tongue,
considerably out of proportion by a few feet, and slobbered all over the
Machop. It was covered in a thin coat of saliva. Perhaps saliva with a side
of ectoplasm.
"Ma... chop..." the Machop cried as it realized it couldn't move.
"Machop, return!" said the black belt. "You fight well."
"Same for you," Steve replied, a little tired.
"Well, let's see how you do against Primeape then!" the black belt yelled as
he tossed another Pokeball.
Steve was a little surprised. He was hoping to give his Jynx a little time to
recover before sending it off to battle again. This was the first time he saw
his Pokemon fight. The first time he had a chance to train her. But right now
he didn't have much of a choice.
"Crap..." he thought to himself. "Jynx, double slap!"
"Jynx-Jynx-Jynx-Jynx," she chanted with each blow.
"Primeape," the Black belt said calmly as he watched what was going on,
"THRASH!!!"
"Prime-APE!!!!!!" it scream as it dealt the first devastating blow to Jynx.
"JYNX!!!!" Steve's Pokemon screamed in agony.
"Jynx, try your lick attack!" Steve screamed.
Jynx gave a valiant effort. She coated her tongue in her ectoplasm, just like
before and stuck it out. Unfortunately for her, Primeape was too quick and
managed to yank it in midair.
"YINKS?" she said, confused. Or at least tried to. It's pretty hard to talk
right when a Primeape has your tongue. Primeape immediately used it to fling
her into the wall.
"Jynx!" Steve yelled in desperation, "try your ice punch!"
As Primeape began to approach, Jynx was a little scared. But Primeape in his
current state wasn't capable of rational thought, and she was. She had one
chance to throw one well aimed punch at him. As it contacted, water vapor in
the air began to condense into water and slowly chilled into ice. A thin sheet
slowly began to cover Primeape completely, and Jynx's opponent was finding it
harder and harder to move. Finally, he was completely frozen.
"That Jynx certainly is persistent!" the black belt continued. "Primeape,
return!"
"Well, thanks," Steve began, "bu--"
"Machamp, go!" the black belt yelled.
"God dammit!" Steve yelled. "Jynx, double slap!"
"Jynx-Jynx-Jynx..." she replied, enthusiastic as she approached Machamp.
"Machop, low kick!" the black belt yelled as Machamp respond with a quick hit
to the gut, stunning Jynx for a moment.
"Jynx, try your ice punch again!" Steve yelled.
"JYNX!!!" she yelled as she delivered a single punch which began to freeze the
Machamp.
"Machamp, karate chop!"
"Ma-CHAMP!!!!" the Machamp dealt one blow that completely smashed through all
of the ice.
"Dammit..." Steve thought, realizing he had no choice but to unleash her most
powerful move. "Jynx, use psychic!"
"JYNX!!!!" she responded as she focused a huge psychic beam at Machamp. Its
telekinetic force hit with the power of a truck and twice as sudden. So sudden
the Machamp didn't even have a chance to adjust as his psyche continued to be
ebbed away by the attack.
"Machamp, return," said the black belt. "Well, that was quite a workout."
"I'll say," Steve agreed, a little tired. He reached into his bag and took
out a super potion for his Jynx. This was going to be a long day.
"I wonder how Karen is doing...." he wondered to himself.
