Meanwhile, back at the fighting gym...
"So you finally think you're ready to challenge me?" asked the Karate Master.
Steve nodded and bowed out of respect. He had been here for 3 days while
Karen, Fox and Gohan were next door at the Psychic Gym. During that time, he
went through 7 bottles of full heals, 4 elixirs, and 26 trips to the Pokemon
Center. The only time he took a break and the only time he met the others was
to eat and sleep.
"You have learn much in the past few days," the Master admitted as he reached
for his first ball. "Show me what your Jynx can do against my Primeape."
"Jynx, go!" Steve yelled as he tossed his Pokeball on the floor."
The two faced eachother and Steve could see the rage in Primeape's eyes. It
was a trained Pokemon, their was no doubt about that, but it was s-
"Primeape, use your fury swipes!" the Karate Master demanded. Primeape leapt
in the air towards Jynx with one hand well above his head and then took a quick
swipe as he neared. Steve cringed as he saw his Pokemon beaten to a bloody
pulp.
"Jynx, body slam!" Steve responded.
Jynx caught Primeape's oncoming blow in one hand and used her other to lift
Primeape up completely.
"JYNX!!!!!!" she shrieked as she slammed him to the ground. The impact
managed to stun Primeape, but not take him out of the fight completely.
"Primeape, focus energy," ordered the Karate Master.
Focus energy was sometimes an odd sort of move. When Shock and Scy visited
Misty in the thread, "Heated battle in Cerulean City," for instance, Misty had
her Staryu use the move "Focus energy" which quite literally "began to suck in
energy from all around" and unfortunately, "sucked Magnemite right at it," thus
having "Magnemite smashed into Staryu, finishing it."
Now, anyone reading this thread might have concluded that "focus energy" was
quite a useless, nay, detrimental move if it had water Pokemon force electric
Pokemon to knock right into it. It would be about as useful as equipping your
Pokemon with "confuse ray" only to find out it literally confused people named
"Ray" so that they would attack your Pokemon. Then again, if anybody reading
this thread would notice that Misty was pretty absent minded that day. She
also allowed a Scy's Pidgey to ride around along in a Porygon that had been
watching too many reruns of "Transformers" and ran "Jet Conversion" and
activate a force field without any commands for it.
But no, this "focus energy" move was different. Primeape sat down and began
to meditate. Steve looks at the mastery as this wild beast sat down calmly
just as a Buddhist monk might. There was a certain mastery there that could
have only come from good training, a taming of sorts. But all good things must
come to an end.
"Jynx, lick, now!" Steve ordered. Jynx stuck her gigantic tongue and
slobbered all over the perfectly still Primeape.
"Primeape, thrash!" the Karate Master responded. Just as sudden as the beast
would calm down, it would now focus all its power into uncontrollable theory.
Or would it?
"Primeape must be paralyzed from that last attack," the Karate Master
admitted. "Primeape, return. Machamp, go!"
Jynx starred at her new opponent. A four armed green brute.
"Jynx, try another lick!" Steve shouted. Jynx responded by giving another
huge wet and disgusting lick.
"Machamp, respond with seismic toss!" yelled the Karate Master.
Machamp grabbed Jynx's legs with his lower two arms and spun her round and
round, finally letting her crash into a wall. The pain was devastating and
Machamp was beginning to approach.
"Jynx, ICE PUNCH!!!" Steve yelled. As Jynx's first contacted, the thick
coating of saliva was the first thing to freeze. The rest of Machamp soon
followed.
"Machamp, return!" ordered the Karate Master. "Hitmonchan, go!!!"
Hitmonchan looked like the personification of a well trained athlete. Steve
looked a little tense when he saw him.
"Jynx, body slam!" Steve yelled. Jynx ran towards Hitmonchan and lifted him
high over her head threw him to the ground.
"Hitmonchan, FIRE PUNCH!!!" the Karate Master responded.
Hitmonchan was happy to obey. He watched as his fist began to ignite and
delivered a single elemental blow to Jynx, melting the very ice inside of her
which kept her alive. Steve knew she wouldn't be able to last much longer and
that he had no choice but to use Jynx's most powerful move.
"Jynx, psychic!" he ordered. Jynx shot a psychic bolt at Hitmonchan, powerful
enough to take him down. But she wasn't doing too well herself.
"Hitmonchan, return!" shouted the Karate Master. "Hitmonlee, go!"
Hitmonlee lacked the humanoid form that Hitmonchan had. But Steve knew he had
to be cautious. He also knew that Jynx didn't have much strength left in her.
"Jynx, psychic!" Steve ordered. Jynx tried her best and obediently fired a
powerful bolt of psychic energy, but she wasn't able to completely take
Hitmonlee down. She was still weak from the battle.
"Hitmonlee, double kick!" the Karate Master yelled. In a flash, Hitmonlee
took 3 quick shots at Jynx, beating her completely.
"You fought well," said the Karate Master, "but you can only learn so much in
such a short period of time. Let your Pokemon heal and come back later and try
again."
"Yes, sensei," Steve said as he bowed. Then he turned around and saw Karen
waiting.
"Hiya Karen, where is everyone?" he asked.
"In the car," said Karen as she held her Jolteon in her arms.
"How did he and your sandshrew do?" Steve asked.
"Great," Karen replied. "Jolteon's starting to master his electrical attacks.
I think I'll call him A.C."
"Great name," Steve told her as the two of them walked outside and into the
car and saw Fox and Gohan. "I hear that there's a technician who works nearby
by the name of Mark who works for Silph Co. I could ask him a few questions
and get my car upgraded. Interested?"
