Phannon hits the road
“Where’d you get the Jolteon from?” Came the question from my
12-year-old sister, Jackie as soon as I set foot in my house. “And what
happened to your Ee-?” She cut of mid-sentence, her eye’s widening. “I
see.”
“I evolved him.” I said petting his head affectionately. “He just won
his first battle.”
“Jolt!” He nodded, confirming my story.
“That’s what the ruckus at the pokécenter was about.” Jackie mumbled,
putting the facts together. “I just heard some stupid S.O.B. challeng-”
“Stupid S.O.B.!” I cut her off, the hairs on the back of my neck
standing up. “Who’d ya hear _that_ from?” I was almost angry, Generator,
sensing that growled menacingly, his spikes bristling.
“Jol!” He said, like he meant it.
“No one.” She said nervously, glancing at the sparking Jolteon.
“Sure.” I said, trying to calm down the angry pokémon under my hands. “I
believe you.” I resumed absently rubbing his head.
“Oooohhh! You got a _new_ poké!” She finally noticed the extra ball on
my belt. “Lemme see! I wanna see!”
“Sure,” I nonchalantly pulled the ball from my belt, “Spank go!” The
Mankey appeared from the red glow.
“MANKEY, mankey! Mankey!” It hollered.
“Umm,” she hesitated.
“Umm, what?” I started getting nervous about what I was going to say.
“Isn’t that Anna’s mankey?”
“It was.” I felt the sweat running down my forehead, and my mouth was
dry.
I hadn’t noticed that I had been rubbing Generator progressively harder,
he reminded me by shocking my offending hand. “Jolt.” I winced and
moved my hand.
“What’s going on?” She said, a concerned look on her face. “Is Anna
okay?”
“Get mom and dad together in the den, I’ll get our sib’s, I’ve got
news.”
“Alright, I’ll do it.” She said, noticing the look in my eyes. She stood
up and headed upstairs, to fetch my parents. This was a rare occasion
where they were both home, because of the holiday.
I went to the back and yelled for my youngest two siblings. “Turry!
Mara! Come in the house, I have some news.” My brother and sister looked
up from their sandbox and made their way to the house.
I headed for the den, taking my seat in the comfy rocking chair by the
door. It faced the sofa, where Jackie was, and the loveseat, where my
parents already were. Generator had followed me, and sat by my chair,
watching the door.
“What do you have to tell us?” Mom (that’s her name) asked.
“I’ll tell you when Turry and Mara get in here.” I watched out the door,
waiting anxiously. Eventually the late kids got into the room.
“Oohhh. A Jolteon!” Turry said.
“You evolved your Eevee!” Mara, who was the older of the two squealed.
“Okay boy.” This came from Jackie, not Mom. “What are you going to tell
us? I’ve waited long enough.”
“My news,” pause, “is,” another pause as I collected my thoughts, “I’ve
decided,” pause, “I’m going to,” dramatic pause as I drew a deep breath,
“leavetownandstartajourneytogetmybadgesjusttobeatJamalandI’mleavingtomorrow.”
I said, all at once.
“What the *hell* did you just say?” Jackie asked, causing my parents to
gasp and give her stern looks.
“I said,” once again I tried to take a deep breath, “leave town and
start a journey to get my badges just to beat Jamal, and I’m leaving
tomorrow.” Now there was a collective gasp, from four of the other
members of my family, and sobbing from my mom.
“Why? Why must you go?”
“Because, it’s the only way I’ll beat Jamal.” I shrugged.
“You let _that_ S.O.B. get to you?” Shot Jackie, receiving another stern
look from Mom and Dad. Now the initial shock was over, and Mara and
Turry had started sobbing.
“Do you have to go, Phannon?” They asked together, through their sobs.
“I have to go.” I was fighting back tears, myself. “But I won’t leave
until morning.”
“I understand, son.” At least Dad (that’s his name) understands. “A
man’s gotta do, what a man’s gotta do.”
We all sat there for a little while longer before Mom took it on herself
to stuff my backpack (I don’t know how she stuffed it, it’s bottomless
*shrug*.) I remembered I had told Anna I would come back. I headed
outside towards my locked up Mongoose. Generator was right at my heels.
I rode up to her and Jamal’s house, only to find him out in the front
yard caring for his wartortle. He looked up at the sound of approaching
paws (my bike runs silently). I heard the crackle of static coming from
Generators spikes. Hoped against hope none would jump to my bikes frame
(static shocks hurt.)
“The hell are _you_ doing here?” He asked angrily. Generator growled
back at him, angry as a mo fo.
“I told Anna I’d come by.” I shrugged, willing Generator to calm down,
surprisingly he did. “She here?”
“Yeah.” He looked back at his wartortle.
“Can you get her?” I asked getting impatient.
“No.” He refused without even looking up.
I walked my Mongoose into the garage, and walked up to the front door.
Generator stayed behind with my bike, regaining his previous anger. I
couldn’t see him, but I felt it, almost like it was mine. I knocked on
the front door, and a voice yelled: “It’s open, come in.” Funny, that
voice wasn’t familiar, must be Anna’s dad’s latest lover.
I walked in, unsure of where to go. “Where’s Anna?” I asked loudly, to
no one in general.
“I’m in the study.” I made my way upstairs to their study, I knew her,
erm, house, yeah, I knew her house like the back of my, erm, hand, yeah
that works. I knew her house like the back of my hand.
She turned around from the computer as I stepped in, and then caught my
gaze with her puppy dog brown eyes. I glanced at the monitor, and asked:
“Whatcha working on?” Just to break the ice.
“Oh, this is the Dexcorp delivery list.” She gestured at the screen.
“What cities were you going to?”
“I was gonna goto all the cities with official gyms, Pewter, Cerulean,
Celadon, Saffron, Fuchsia, Cinnabar Island, Viridian, and Vermillion.” I
hadn’t really thought of the route I was going to take.
“I asked daddy, and he said we don’t have the bandwidth or time, to
transport these pokédex chips to all the gyms, they have the data for
all the types the gym uses.” She paused reaching for a box. “In this
box, there are eight sections, deposit the marked one at each gym.
You’ll receive payment on delivery.”
I took the proffered box, and stuck it in my backpack. “Thanks, I really
appreciate it.” Ouch, that was bad. I scratched the back of my hand,
trying to think, of something better to say.
“I hate long good-byes.” She said, sadly. I dumbly nodded my agreement,
still looking into her eyes. Call me slow, but I just noticed that she
had changed into something more, umm, comfortable.
“Sorry for the interruption.” We both turned and saw the author. “I just
realized I don’t have any non-hentai ideas to finish this night, so I’ll
just skip to the morning. Continue”
I woke up in Anna’s room before her alarm clock, and just sat awake. She
was a sound sleeper, and I just felt her body stirring next to mine.. I
felt a foreign anxiety, not mine, but coming from the garage.
“Generator!” I sat bolt upright, remembering the poor poké hadn’t had
food since, well yesterday. I hadn’t eaten either, but I had, well… I
felt an arm around my back, pulling me back down, face to face with the
now fully awake Anna.
“Morning.” She said with a smile that melted into a long kiss. When our
lips parted I had to make the sad statement.
“I’d better get my shower.” Only a moron would say that here, but I did.
“I know,” Anna replied, grinning. I walked half-naked into the bathroom
and showered. When I was finished she had thrown on a robe. Finally, I
grabbed my still light, half-empty-though-very-full bottomless
anime-style backpack. We headed downstairs and made a leisurely
breakfast. Her dad was still sleep and there was no sign of Jamal. I
took some snacks out to the very hungry Generator. Then we had one last
long kiss (*shrug* hey, I couldn’t resist, my body was still overloaded
with testosterone.)
Finally the feeling of anxiety subsided. I hopped on my Mongoose as Anna
opened the garage and stepped back into the house. Generator kept pace
as I started riding up the street to get on my way to Celadon City,
where I wanted to go first, before I went to Pewter, to start getting my
badges.
I headed along the river, whistling in a vain attempt to keep my spirits
up. After an hour of event free riding I saw a patch of Spearows.
“Great! Spearows!” This immediately brought my spirits up. “Go
Generator!” The Jolteon ran forward into the patch of bird pokémon, his
spikes sparking. The birds tried to take flight to avoid the electric
pokémon “Thunderbolt that one over there!” I pointed, hopping off my
bike.
“Jolt! EON!” The overcharged thunderbolt tore through the flock of
birds, arcing from one to another, dropping them out of the sky one by
one. When the one I wanted was hit I hurled a pokéball at it. Jolteon
stopped when he saw the white-red blur. “Jolt.” He said feeling proud of
himself, with good reason.
“Yes!” I whooped, jabbing my right fist in the air. “I caught a
Spearow!” I walked over to the ball lay. I picked it up and pointed it
away from my face. “Go Warbeak!” The hurt Spearow appeared, feeling a
twinge of pity for the little bird I gave it a potion, or should I say
tried to. It attempted to peck my eye, so I had to wrestle with it. When
all was done the bird took flight trying to escape. “Warbeak! Return!”
It fought more now, but was mine. Then I attached the ball to my
pokébelt. “Good job, Generator.”
“Jolt.” I walked back to my bike and rode off, Generator at my heels. We
headed along the river to Celadon where I could deliver the first
shipment of chips.
The trip took several days, in many of which I battled other trainers. I
used Spank and Warbeak mainly, well I used Warbeak when it decided to
listen to me. When I finally arrived at Celadon I ran into a disgruntled
Vulpix.
It just paced in front of the pokécenter, not letting anyone by. I
figured that little fox would make a fine addition to my team, so I sent
out Spank. “Go! Spank! Scratch attack!”
The well-trained mankey ran up to the sitting vulpix and scratched it.
It yelped in pain and retaliated with ember. Spank agilely dodged the
attack, “Spank! Seismic toss!” Spank picked up and tossed the little
Vulpix, and its eyes glowed a fiery red. “Scratch again!” Spank tried
to when the angry Vulpix just countered with Body Slam.
“MAN! Key!” It hit Spank again and again, before I had a chance to
recall it.
“Go! Warbeak! Razor Wind!” The Vulpix tried to ember the flying Spearow,
but it was lost in the whirlwind.
“Spearow! Spear!” The attack hit the vulpix broadside. It shrieked in
pain, so I tried a pokéball, which it hit back with his tail. Then it
burst into a blazing inferno as it unleashed its rage. “Spear! Spear!”
This angry firefox just exploded against Warbeak, singeing his feathers.
I grimaced in empathy with my burnt-to-a-crisp pokémon.
“Warbeak! Return!” I nodded to the pumped Jolteon next to me. He ran
forward to finish the raging vulpix. “Body slam ‘em!” Jolteon complied,
and the vulpix bounced along the sidewalk, the flame growing brighter,
before extinguishing.
I used the break to throw a pokéball. The vulpix fought for almost a
full minute, before submitting to the device. The crowd literally went
wild. “Ching!” I did my signature fist pump.
“Jolt!” Generator backflipped after finishing the great match. He
trotted over and retrieved the pokéball, which he dropped into my
waiting hand.
“Good finish.” I congratulated him, petting his head. I led a massive
flood of people into the pokécenter, to get my pokémon healed, proud of
my victory.
I need a sig.
