But there was no response. Even the stars seemed to look away, as a
cloud moved to block their shine.
For several hours, there was silence. No sound, no light, no wind...if
Slasher had come back, he might have thought himself in a sensory
depravation tank, save for the ground under his feet. Even on the
psychic realm, two minds shunted all of their energies into a third that
merely absorbed them, leaving nothing to detect.
But all things change with time. It was the dawning of the sun that
revealed how this particular situation had resolved. Seth was
unsuprisingly asleep, curled protectively over the unblinking statue of
Aerie. Mimic had apparently knocked himself out doing whatever it was
he had done.
And two redheaded Rockets were carefully examining the trio from a short
distance away.
"Are you sure?"
"The pokedex don't lie, mon cher. This here be Mimic, alright."
The male of the pair held up his specially modified pokedex. On it, a
false color representation of the three appeared, with the Drowzee in
white. Seth was a light pink, Aerie was slightly darker, and a bit of
the man's thumb which got in the picture was blood red; all of these
contrasted nicely with the background blue.
"Why are the other two showing up at all?"
"They must be Dittos, too. Friends o' Mimic, most likely."
"But the 'fessor said even Dittos would show up red. Pink would mean a
son or somethin'..."
"Don't matter. You heard the boss's orders. This'll be easy.
Pokeball, GO!"
One red and white sphere lazily hurtled towards Mimic, opening as it
neared...
...only to be batted away at the last second. "Sian."
Slasher's blood red form appeared on the screen, growing larger as he
charged. A minute later, the screen was all blood red...despite the
fact that its owner had tried to turn it off.
Even this racket did not wake up Seth or Mimic; indeed, it was another
hour before they were both up and about (with the help of a Revive for
Mimic). Slasher presented a prize for Seth.
"A pokedex? Where'd you find this?"
"Purr." (I won it.)
"But this thing's already registered. I could reprogram it, unless the
original owners come looking."
"Purr. Sian." (They won't miss it. I already ate.)
Seth winced. "I'm sorry for not feeding you last night...or..." A
sickening thought occured to Seth. "Wait. Don't tell me you ate
*THEM*?"
"Purr." Unfortunately, the precise meaning of that is more couched in
feline language than in human; even Seth did not quite know its meaning.
"What?"
"Purr, purr." (I already told you, >untranslatable<.)
Before Seth could press for details, Mimic interrupted. "Seth...Mimic
sorry. Mimic try every trick Mimic know, but no good. May need try
Sabrina."
"NO! Err...no, that's ok..."
"Is *NOT* ok. Is Aerie. Thought Seth want Aerie cured."
"But...the vision..."
"Mimic learn long ago, ignore visions. Even if true, can often be
interpreted more way than one."
"I'm not so sure...look, can we *please* not go to Sabrina? I'm
afraid..."
"Hmph. Is obvious. Is more like cowa-..."
Seth blinked. Had Mimic just insulted him?
"Mimic sorry. Mimic...on edge after try everything. Mimic no like fear
shape actions. Fear lead anger...and, well, Seth hear before."
Seth nodded, but it took him a few seconds to remember the full
speech.
"Anyway, is more than one alternate. Try Pokemon Tower in Lavendar."
"Isn't that place full of ghosts?"
"Yes, but is also magnet for sect call Channelers. Use psychic powers
communicate with ghosts. Most good - one may know way to help."
TBC?
