Forest headed downstairs where his grandparents were seated at the kitchen
table. They had come into his bedroom and said that they had to tell him
something in the tone they used when Forest had done something wrong.
He walked down the remaining steps and took a seat at the table. His
grandfather was the first to speak.
Forest's grandfather was an old man, about 77 years old. His grandmother
was about 69 years old. Even though they were old, they had still been good
parents to him, ever since their daughter had dumped him with them when he was
three. They were a little overprotective, and they hadn't let him go out
Pokemon training when he was 10 years old, but to make up for it, they gave him
a Paras which had been his only friend for years.
"I assume your wondering why we called you down here son," Forest's
grandfather said. He folded his hands and looked at Forest.
"Yes, sir, I was," Forest said, sinking a little lower in his chair. He
thought he was in trouble.
"We have something very troubling to tell you Forest," His grandmother
said, as tears started to roll out of her eyes. Forest's grandfather whispered
something to his grandmother, but she shook him off, shaking her head.
"When our daughter left us to take care of you, we were a little
suspicious, since she had never told us about you, and had never seemed
pregnant before. We knew she was involved in illegal activities, but we didn't
know of what sort. We always suspected that you had been kidnapped, but we
never had any proof, or looked for any, until we saw this article in the
newspaper." Forest's grandfather handed him the Celedon City newspaper, where
several pages off the front-page, on page 46, there was a small article.
Forest took the article from his grandfather and started to read it:
Pokemon Thief Identified
--------------------------------
The Pokemon thief who stole a Mr. Mime from one of the local trainers has
been identified as 15-year old Splash from Cerulean City. He was last seen on a
train heading for Viridian City.
Splash was adopted from an adoption agency in Saffron City along with his
identical brother Forest. His other brother, Shock, had been lost from the
center one year before Splash and Forest were adopted. Forest has been missing
and presumed dead for 12 years.
Splash is not believed to be a member of Team Rocket, but it is not
confirmed.
There was also a picture of Splash, almost identical to Forest. Forest was
too stunned to speak. His grandparents weren't his grandparents at all.
"We want you to find your brothers," Forest's grandfather said. "I took
the liberty of getting you a pokemon trainers license and some pokeballs." He
handed them over to Forest.
"We are sorry," His grandmother said. Both his grandparents started to
cry, and Forest tried to reassure them.
"You'll always be my grandparents," Forest said, not sure if he believed
it.
"Go, get packed," His grandmother said.
Forest stood up and headed upstairs. He tried not to think of all he had
to absorb. His grandparents weren't his grandparents at all. He had brothers.
Forest entered his room and started packing. He packed some shirts,
shorts, a blanket, pillow, and some other things. Soon, he was almost ready to
go.
Forest grabbed his Paras' pokeball and called it out.
"Paras?" Paras asked him.
"Guess what Paras!" Forest said, somewhat sadly. "We're finally going on
our pokemon journey!"
"Paras, Paras?" Paras said.
"You want to know why I seem sad?" Forest said.
Paras nodded.
Forest sighed and sat next to Paras on his bed. He then told Paras what
his grandparents had told him.
"Paras," Paras said when Forest had finished.
"Yeah," Forest said. "Come on Paras, let's go." Forest picked up Paras and
headed down the stairs. His grandparents were still sitting at the kitchen
table, crying.
"I'm going," Forest said. He watched as his grandparents stopped crying
long enough to wish him good luck, and they told him he was always welcome in
their home.
Forest left his grandparents sitting at the table and headed out the front
door. He put Paras down on the ground and returned him to his pokeball. He took
the newspaper that had the article about Splash from his pocket and read it
again. Splash was heading for Viridian City. Shock's wearabouts were unknown,
so Forest decided to try to find Splash.
