The boat slowly floated a few feet out into the Cerulean City river and both
Rei and his uncle, Leon cast their
respective lines into the water. "So Rei, I heard you been thinkin' bout
goin for them there pokemon badges."
his uncle said, not looking up. "Yes sir. I'm thinking about starting after
I get my first pokemon." Rei replied.
"So, you're not goin' to that Pallet Town to get yer first pokemon?" He
asked. "No. First, I don't live there, and
second, out here, you have a better choice of pokemon to chose from than
just three. "Ah see whatcha mean
there kid." Leon chuckled. "Whoop, looks like I got a little tug." He
started to sit back, yanking at the rope.
"What do you think it is?" Rei's shirt turned green with anticipation.
"Judgin from the strength, maybe a
Poliwag, if it's a Magikarp, though, we'll be havin' us some smoked fish
tonight." he kept tugging at the rope.
Rei started to help, hoping that his uncle was right either way. Finally,
with a combined tug, four pokemon
crashed into the boat. " Wow!" Rei's shirt turned white with surprise. "Hmm,
if my memory serves me right,
these are a Poliwag, Staryu, Shellder, and a Krabby." Leon put his thumb to
his chin in thought. "Care to pick,
Mr. Future Pokemon Master?" he smnirked. Rei nodded and his gaze turned to
the Staryu. "I'll take that star-
thing there." Rei pointed. "All right, just remember, you better get a
pokeball for that thing." Leon said as they
rowed to shore. Rei and his new pokemon, Staryu, jumped out of the boat.
"Just remember, if you ever need
anything, pokemon, stuff like that, don't hesitate to come over, O.K" his
uncle said. "Don't worry, I'll call." Rei left
for his house, only a few blocks away, his Staryu following him like a
bicycle wheel. "This could be the start of a
beautiful friendship." Rei said, his shirt turning a rainbowish color.
And he... Got it!---- Rich Eisen, ESPN news anchor.
Today's Pokemon: Staryu.
Type: Water
Notes: Of Misty's pokemon, the most underappreciated. (yeah, it's even
better than that walking omlet, Togepi)
