From: Chuck Einhorn <unicorns@mmtcnet.com> Subject: [PW!] The Fighting Dojo, Part 1 Date: Thursday, August 19, 1999 8:10 PM Dernam had had a long day. He sat down in Saffron Park to think a bit. He wanted to have some fun, damn it, not just hope the press, or the 3 brats from earlier, would find him. He pulled his Pokédex. He wanted to find out about Pokémon League. He knew about the 8 official badges and all, but he wanted more info. He linked Magnemite up to the Pokédex, and he connected with a satelite, allowing Dernam to get on the web. He went to the Pokémon League website to find out about the Gyms he would have to challenge. Fuschia was a no-brainer, he had stayed and trained there. He hadn't challenged Koga yet, but all in due time. The Viridian City Gym was temporarily closed. Oh, well. Cinnabar was home to Blaine, who used Fire types. Gyarados could beat him easily, but that would have to wait. Cinnabar was a long ways away. Dernam decided to look locally. The resident trainer of Saffron was Sabrina, a Psychic. He wisely decided to steer clear of her. A Kadabra was just too much for any of his Pokémon. That would have to wait. He did want a Ghost type, though. He switched his focus to Celadon. Erika, a Grass-type specialist, was there. He knew Scyther could rip her apart any day. That seemed like a good choice, but that would be later, perhaps. He wanted to expand his collection. He then surfed south to Vermillion. Lt. Surge, an Electricity freak, presided in the town at the bay. He chuckled to himself. After he got some Moon Stone for Nidorino, he would be a breeze. But he needed Moon Stone first, and he looked for it's most probable location. Mount Moon, of course. To get there, he would have to travel through Cerulean. He loaded up Cerulean. Three fair young ladies. He thought of how fun it would be to whomp them. Water type, eah? Gyarados would chew them up and spit them out. We saw a link, Visiting Gym Leader. Visiting Gym Leader? He had to check that out. He clicked the link. He stared at the picture of the girl before him. The girl from earlier, Misty. Damn, that was bad. If he had to fight her, well, things could get ugly. He figured her opinion of him(what with scaring her silly with a sudden Scyther assult, breaking into her room, and making her look like a weirdo to her friends) wasn't too high. He really hoped he didn't have to do anything more with that one.(Foreshadowing?) He looked over the map again. Pewter had a gym. The trainer there was a middle aged man. Gyarados could beat his rock types, he thought. Another suspicious link. Former Gym Leader. WTF? And the guy, dark skin, squinty eyes, black hair....!? Sure enough, it was Brock. Go figure. 2 high, or semi-high level officials now probably hate his guts. Ain't that a fine howdy doo? Dernam decided to forget about it. He wanted to get on with his life, and think about the problems as they come. Think in the moment. He only had 3 fighting Pokémon, Magnemite was only an information source. He decided to look around town for hints. He was too young to hang around bars and strip joints, so he went to cafés and the Pokémon Center, looking for hints. One new trainer said he had tried to get a Hitmonchan at the Fighting Dojo, but got whipped. Fighting Dojo. All of Dernam's Pokémon were either Flying, or Poison, granting resistance. He thought it was worth a shot. After following the kid's directions, he found himself in front of the Saffron City Pokémon Gym. To the left of it was a smaller, more rustic, less surrealistic building. Dojo. He walked to the door, pushed it open and walked inside. TBC. Ethan Einhorn Sorry it took me so long to continue with Dernam, but I'd been really involved with NC lately.
