"Something big is happening." Mithril-rama comments, as she jumps off of the
Pidgeot that she's sharing with Robert. They have arrived in the Viridian
City Pidgeot Express offices. Their destination is the Viridian Forest.
"Something big?" Robert asks as they head out of the special runway for
landing Pidgeots, northward towards the Viridian Forest. "What are you
talking about?"
Mithril-rama shrugs, "I don't know for sure... but we're going into the
Viridian Forest to find some kind of weird sword just because you saw a
ghostly sage who told you to do it. Now that's wonky. Doesn't it seem big to
you?"
"I am the hero." Robert declares, the four words engraved into his mind ever
since the first time he uttered them.
The couple doesn't say anything else until they reach the Viridian Forest.
For some reason, there is a mysterious, dense fog blanketing the area. The
fog is similar to the violet haze in Lavender Town, except it's white and
much thicker. Robert shudders, "How will I be able to see the bugs now? If a
bug bites me, I'm going to re-think this whole hero thing."
"That wouldn't be such a bad idea, Robert..." Mithril-rama sighs, wishing her
boyfriend would go back to the way he usually is. "But I'll tag along with
you wherever you go on your... adventure."
Robert and Mithril-rama head into the Forest... They easily get lost in the
fog, and on occasion, Robert bashes into a tree, not being able to see what's
right in front of him. Every time Robert hears the cry of "Weeeeedle!" or
"Caaaata!" he almost wets his pants, and gets very nervous, sweatdroping, and
latching onto Rilli for protection.
In one of the turns in the forest, Robert bumps into a building. Quite
literally, in fact. "OWWW! Who put a building here? Didn't anyone consider
the zoning laws?" Robert rubs his forehead, and looks for an entrance. Robert
holds Rilli's hand and eventually enters the building. The center of the room
has a rug on it, and sitting on the rug are a male and a female, holding
hands with each other.
The adolescent boy wearing an ice blue vest looks up, "Hello, friends! Of
course I don't have to tell you who I am, since everyone knows that. We
haven't had guests for the longest time... ever since the fog started. Did
you two come to get a Forest Badge or do you want Sara to teach you about
Pokemon?"
Robert reaches behind his neck with his arm and sweatdrops, "Actually, I
haven't heard about you..."
"What?!" The boy stands up, looking appalled, "Oh... oh... that's right. You
might not recognize me. I used to be everyone's favorite Pikachu for the
longest time, but now I'm human again! Now do you know who I am?"
"No..." Robert chuckles nervously, wondering if this person is psychotic.
The boy paces, his world falling apart, "Fine, I'll tell you. My name is
Icy... Does that ring a bell?"
"Icy, Icy, Icy..." Robert tries to remember the name, but fails, "I've never
heard about you or known anyone who has. Sorry... Maybe you need to get out
of this place and interact with people more."
Icy's jaw drops, "But all my adventures... Didn't you hear about them? Of
course you did! What did you think about them? Did you like the way that
Mewtwo helped me change back from a Pikachu into a human? What about the
golden Butterfree that popped out of the egg? Wasn't that surprising?"
Mithril-rama whispers to Robert, "Maybe he's the second sage... You said the
other sage sounded crazy too."
"CRAZY?! I'm not crazy!!!" Icy shouts out, fuming, then recomposes himself,
"I mean... I'm not crazy, friends."
"How'd you hear that?" Robert asks, worried that the guy is going to pull out
a knife.
Icy chuckles, "You're playing a trick on me, right? Pretending you don't know
who I am? Everyone knows that I'm psychic! I'm everyone's favorite psychic
Pikachu! I mean... WAS everyone's favorite. I keep forgetting I'm not a
Pikachu any more. But that's not the point. I had 126 adventures. You must've
heard about at least ONE of them!"
Robert slowly shakes his head, smiling politely, "You... keep track of your
adventures?"
"Of course! Who doesn't?" Icy teleports over to Sara and hugs her, "Sara,
what did you just think about my latest adventure... the chat with the guy
who claims he hasn't heard of me? I guess that's 127, unless you count my
epilogue."
Sara smiles and kisses him, "It was wonderful! I love you, Icy."
"I love you too, Sara." Icy kisses her back, ignoring Robert and
Mithril-rama.
Robert clears his throat, "You... aren't a sage, are you... Icy? Maybe the
Sage of Egotism or something?"
"Egotism?" Icy's eyes go wide as he teleports in front of Robert, "I'm the
best hero of all time! How could I be egotistical? Heros aren't
egotistical... and I'm most definitely a hero. Just ask Clan Caterpie. I love
all of my Pokemon equally! That's why I'm the most beloved and respected
Pikachu... I mean... person in the world! Don't you think so?"
Robert slowly backs away, with Mithril-rama not far behind, "Okay... sure...
just don't use your psycho... er, psychic powers to destroy us or anything.
We have to be leaving now... Bye, Icy and Sara!"
"Don't you want a Forest Badge?" Icy starts to follow them, "I mean, surely
being able to beat one of the... nay, the greatest Pika... er, trainer in the
universe will make you feel much better about yourself! I only use Bug
Pokemon!"
"AHHHHHH!!!" Robert runs out of the Viridian Forest Gym, and Mithril-rama
chases after him.
Icy scratches his head, "Was it something I said? ... Of course not! I always
say the right thing, right Sara?"
"Yes, you do. That's why I love you!" Sara beckons Icy to return to the rug
so she can show her affection again.
Once far away from the Bug Pokemon Gym, Robert is leaning forward and
panting. "How am I supposed to find the master sword in all this fog?"
Mithril-rama gives a suggestion while trying to catch her breath, "Hey, why
don't you send out Raichu? She lived here for a long time. Maybe she knows
where this master sword you keep talking about is?"
"That's a great idea!" Robert grabs the yellow Pokeball hanging from the
second slot on his belt and thrusts it forward. A shapely female Raichu
appears, her hands resting on her hips, "Rai Rai? Chu?" Robert stares at his
Raichu, still adjusting to her new form, "Raichu, when you lived here in the
Viridian Forest, did you ever see a sword?"
"Rai Rai!" Robert's Raichu nods and gets on all fours, "Chuuuu..." She darts
out inbeween the trees, her cheeks sparking so that Robert can see where
she's heading. Robert and Rilli sigh and both say, "Here we go again..." They
chase the rapid Raichu as she heads left, then straight, then right, then
left, then straight, then right, then straight, and right again...
Eventually, they arrive at an open meadow in the middle of the Viridian
Forest. Strange chimes are heard in the background for a moment. Robert
scratches his head, "Where did that noise come from?"
The fog begins to clear, revealing a huge gray stone in the middle of an
elevated piece of land. Stuck in the stone is a large, gleaming sword. The
Master Sword. Robert knows that it is his destiny to remove the sword from
the stone, as all stereotypical heroes do. He walks up to the Sword in the
Stone, grabs the hilt, and pulls...
... and struggles. And makes grunting noises. The sword doesn't budge. "I am
the hero! Why can't I take the sword?!"
"Hoot! Hoot!" A bird's voice calls out.
Robert backs away from the Master Sword, "What was that?"
A larger than usual Pidgeot descends onto the Master Sword, perching on the
hilt, "Hoot! Hoot! I have been sent to assist you on your journey to claim
the Triforce in the name of good."
Robert makes a confused face at the Pidgeot, "Why are you saying Hoot? Owls
say Hoot, not Pidgeots."
The Pidgeot turns his head, "Since Gold and Silver haven't been released, I
am the most appropriate fowl for this job. Hoot!"
"Is that my quest? To release Gold and Silver from captivity?" Robert humbly
asks, kneeling before the Pidgeot.
The Pidgeot shakes his head, covering his face with one of his wings, "*This*
is the Hero of Time?" The bird then stands tall on the Master Sword, "You
will need the Master Sword to save the world. But in order to claim the
Master Sword, you must first get three badges. Only once these badges have
been gathered, you can fulfill your destiny."
"Badges?" Robert sighs, "Knowing my luck, it's the Marsh, Volcano, and Earth
Badge... The only ones I don't have."
"Hoot! Hoot!" The Pidgeot shakes his head, "The badges you must seek out are
magical badges, created by the ancients. They are hidden in three treacherous
dungeons. First, you will have to hurry to the underground west of Viridian
City. Once you arrive at Subterranean Omnitopia, search for the immortal
known as the Captain of Schwat. He will be able to show you where the first
Dungeon is located. If you survive this ordeal, you must seek out Oceania,
the city built on the Seamfoam Islands. If you survive there, then you will
have to scale Mount Moon. I wish you good luck!"
"What do you mean *if* I survive these dungeons?" Robert asks the wise
Pidgeot.
The Pidgeot smirks and cries out out as he flies away, "You'll find out soon
enough, Robert... Hoot! Hoot!"
Robert stands up straight and stares at the Master Sword, "I don't know if I
can do it... Am I really the hero?"
"Don't worry, Robert..." Mithril-rama pats him on the back, "I'll help you
get these magical badges, just like I helped you get the badges from all
those Gym Leaders. Nothing can keep us apart!"
"You're right..." Robert hugs his girlfriend, "With you by my side, I'm not
afraid. Together forever, right Rilli?"
Mithril-rama giggles as she buries her head into Robert's chest, "Right!"
