From: Time Lady <sailrgal@swbell.net> Subject: [PW!]As the sun rises, there shall come a new life..... Date: Sunday, September 26, 1999 7:52 PM RL Note: Figured it was about time this happened.... Place: The Big P Pokemon Ranch Time: About 5:30 in the morning, the day after the post race party. 5:30 in the morning. It's hard to sleep when you have a sprained ankle and you've been on your feet most of the day before. Sarah Jane takes her glasses of the bedstand and looks around. The room is dark, but she can make out the cots where Christy, Kristy, Julia, and a few other girls are asleep. Shields is also asleep, as are (for a change) Cuddles and Spunky. Sarah Jane's ankle throbs painfully, reminding her as to why she's awake at this early hour. She takes two pills out of a bottle from her backpack, then picks up the carrier that holds the egg she has been tending to for the past few weeks. After slinging the carrier carefully across her shoulder, she picks up her crutches. Painfully she makes her way to the kitchen for a glass of water. Everything around is asleep, except Lara's Growlithe, who growls softly as Sarah Jane limps past. The curious Growlithe follows Sarah Jane into the kitchen. Sarah Jane looks out the kitchen window as she downs her medicine. The sky begins to glow as the sun rises. Softly, Sarah Jane hobbles outside, the Growlithe at her heels. Amber, gold, and orange hues paint the landscape. She stops next to a tree and sits down. Lara's Growlithe lies down next to her, its head in her lap. The glowing orb begins to peek over the horizon. Mesmerized, Sarah Jane watches. For the first time in a while, she begins to feel homesick for the sunrises back home in Rosetta. One time, when she was 8, her grandfather woke her early and took her up to the bell tower at the university to watch the sun rise. Closing her eyes, she pictures the sun rise in her mind. Suddenly, a soft growl from the Growlithe breaks her from her reverie. She looks around for possible danger. The Growlithe, however, is growling and sniffing at the carrier. Cautiously Sarah Jane removes the egg from the carrier and studies it in the amber glow of the morning. A few faint cracks have appeared in the previously flawless exterior. It quivers in her hand. Biting her lower lip in anticipation, Sarah Jane tries to use her mind to sense inside. "It's.... it's hatching....." she says in an awed whisper to the Growlithe. The orb itself begins to glow with a rosy aura of its own. The cracks deepen and lengthen. Warily the Growlithe continues to growl. Sarah Jane barely dares to breath in anticipation. A small triangle of the rock hard shell falls to the ground, followed by another piece, then another.... larger chunks begin to fall away.... "BRRRAAAAWWWKKKK...." squawks the newborn as it opens its eyes. It blinks, then focuses on Sarah Jane. "DAAAAAAKKKKK...." "Welcome to the world, little one," she says in an awed whisper. The baby stretches its stony wings. "DAAAKKKK...." <Mama!> Brushing away a tear from her cheek, Sarah Jane picks up the baby and holds it close. The Growlithe sniffs it curiously. "It's a baby Aerodactyl," she tells the fire dog. The hues of light change as the sun completes its daily journey over the horizon, bathing the trio in its glow. "This is definitely going to be a wonderful day," she says as she carefully puts the baby Aerodactyl in the carrier, then moves off back towards the house. -- (o)_(o) || Time Lady, sailrgal@swbell.net _(^*^)_ || sailrgal@hotmail.com, sailrgal@my-dejanews.com (__ __) || Visit the Mystic Manor Homepage /_/\_\ || http://members.tripod.com/~MysticManor
