Subject: [PW!] Battle for Boulder Badge
Date: Wednesday, September 29, 1999 7:21 PM
[OOC: I've finally stopped procrastinating and wrote this. Hey, it's my
first serious battle! *thinks* It's one of the few serious PW!s I've
written... how was it?]
Zagro stepped into the ring. "I, Zagro Grixil Petix of Viridian City,
challenge the owner of this Gym for a Boulder Badge!" He stared straight
at Brock, who stood.
"I accept your challenge. The battle will be a four against four. Call
your pokemon."
"Get ready... Goddish, go!"
"Geodude, attack! Rock Throw!"
The rocks flew at Goddish, who easily dodged, and responded with an
Absorb. Geodude reeled.
"Geodude, tackle attack, now!"
Geodude sped towards Goddish, who ran away, continually using Absorb.
Geodude, being battered, never reached Goddish, instead crumbling to the
ground.
"Geodude, return! Zubat, attack!"
Goddish didn't let the non-stop Absorption. Brock stared, amazed at how
quickly Zubat fell. And something was odd about this, but Brock couldn't
But it got a few blows in, maybe...
"Zubat, come back! Onix, finish Oddish off! Bind it!"
Goddish got caught in the large snake's curls, and was lifted into the
air. "That's right, Onix, crush it!"
Nobody moved for a few moments. Then Onix roared and collapsed. Zagro
grinned. "Seems Goddish was able to Absorb more than you could deal." It
struck Brock what was odd about this; this kid hadn't told his Pokemon
what to do, they just did it. Not a common trait...
Brock nodded. "Your Oddish has put on a good show, but it ends here.
It's no match for my last pokemon! Vulpix, go! Use Flamethrower!"
Goddish was left as an Oddish Flambé. Zagro grimaced. This was
unexpected, and probably screwed him. "Puffers, go!"
The Jigglypuff, ready, leapt from her Pokeball and tried to slap
Vulpix. Vulpix leapt out of the way and blasted fire at Puffers, who
also dodged. So Puffers began to sing.
Brock, having extensive experiences with Jigglypuffs, already had
earplugs in, but Zagro and the Vulpix fell asleep instantly. Puffers
slapped Vulpix awake and threw it across the room. Vulpix landed cutely
on it's feet and unleashed another Flamethrower attack, charring
Puffers. Puffers staggered over to Zagro, slapped him awake, and
retreated to her pokeball.
Zagro glanced around drowzeely. "Aw man... Omni, go!"
Omni appeared on the ground, made lame cute poses, and said "Pikachu!"
Vulpix fried it.
"Omni, return... *sigh* I haven't trained with Nifty yet... so, go
Dragon!"
Dragon formed and flopped on the floor. "Karp karp karp karp..."
Brock grinned. "Flamethrower, now! Waste this worthless pokemon!"
Zagro watched the Magikarp burn in the super-heated flames, and thought
about all the stories he'd heard, of Magikarps evolving at just the
right moment. Of course, his technically couldn't, but it was worth the
try. Meanwhile, Dragon was still flopping. Brock frowned.
"A tough one, hmm? Vulpix, just continue flaming it!"
Zagro took a few steps back, as the heat was getting pretty rough. He
watched as poor Dragon was cooked thoroughly, and prepared to call him
back when the flames stopped, revealing a still flopping Dragon. Zagro
paused a moment, mouth wider than a Golbat's. Then he grinned as if all
were as planned and smirked at Brock.
"Looks like Vulpix ran out of fire. Dragon wins by default."
Brock looked at the two pokemon for a while, then threw Zagro a Boulder
Badge. "Good match. But how did your Magikarp live through all that
fire, type not-withstanding?"
"It's, ummm, level 100."
"But that means..."
"Yeah, I know. Don't rub it in."
Zagro recalled Dragon, shook Brock's hand, and left the Gym.
