Darwin walked out of the cerulean city gym with a shiny new cascade badge
pinned to his black, spiky fur. The normally busy streets of cerulean were
deserted and Darwin could hear police sirens in the background. He sniffed the
air and the acrid scent of burnt flesh and rubber assaulted his nose. The scent
came from downwind, at the cerulean city hotel, which was a blazing inferno.
The sounds of police sirens also came from the hotel, harshly blasting their
authority into the air. Darwin had learned to fear the police when he was a cub
on the streets of Celadon.
If a cop caught you they would most likely send you to the place where a
chansey would make you go to sleep.
Darwin decided that staying in cerulean city wasn’t a good idea. Somehow or
other La Resistance would get blamed for the attack and humans looking for
someone to blame are almost as dangerous as the police. After a half an hour of
walking he found himself at the exit to route 4.
The route diverged in two directions: The, straight western path, well worn by
the shoes of thousands of young pokemon trainers on their foolish journeys to
become "masters", led to vermilion. The winding northerly path was partially
blocked by overgrown vegetation and led into the darkness of the forest.
Darwin naturally chose the northern path. As a pokemon he would be much more
alert to danger than a human. Eevees were prey to many pokemon. Millions of
years of evolution had built in many solutions to that problem. The eevees long
ears and heightened sense of smell serve to warn it of predators. Also, the
eevees unstable genetic code made it extremely adaptable. A coat of fur that
could be heavy or light depending on the circumstances and an omnivorous diet
made eevees able to exist in virtually any environment. Forests, marshlands,
deserts, jungles, tundra, even cities, all these environments hosted an eevee
population somewhere. The only environments no eevees could not live in were
the arctic and suburban wastelands.
None of these things mattered to Darwin as he trotted briskly along the path to
the power plant. The only thing that mattered to him at that moment was
convincing Zapdos to ally with La Resistance. Darwin thought of how his
eloquently worded arguments would sway Zapdos into believing the rightness of
the resistance cause. He thought of how the troops that zapdos provided would
topple the oppressive team rocket and pokemon league. He thought of he would be
a resistance hero. He though of how he had just absentmindedly stepped into
the river that led to the power plant. He thought about how very fast the
current was taking him. He thought about how he would be dashed to pieces on
the rocks ahead……
