"So," said the man, without introducing himself. "First of all, we want
to know how you found this place."
"I heard a rumour," answered Kiniro quickly, before Murasaki or Sneakers
could tell their woeful tale of being dragged underwater for metres at a
time. "That's all there is to it, really. Some kid in manoeuvres was
getting all exited about how cool the underwater base was, and it kind
of got spread around."
"Some kid in manoeuvres?" queried the man. Then he shrugged it off.
"Never mind. I don't think I need to ask. Anyway. So tell me *why* you
came here."
"Nearest place," Kiniro told him. "That and, well, I was curious."
"You were crazy." Murasaki sneered.
Kiniro shot her a sideways glance. "We've all been sent a little crazy,
since the goings on in Mt Moon..." he protested.
"Ah yes," the stranger put in. "The 'goings on' in Mt. Moon." He
needlessly took some papers out of the briefcase, and flicked through
them. It was *meant* to be disconcerting, but Kiniro didn't care. He was
going to get the story across without any more messing around. So he
told the man everything, right from the time that Murasaki and himself
had left Celadon HQ, up to the point where they'd discovered the burnt
out jeep. Murasaki remained silent. If Kiniro *wanted* to take control,
then he could just do all the work himself too. Sneakers didn't keep
quiet however. He made it very clear that he'd seen the jeep first, and
that he'd been there on a mission in the first place. And he also wanted
to know exactly why other agents had been in Mt Moon looking for
moonstones if they hadn't been joined up with him right from the start.
This seemed like a fairly fractured mission, Sneakers thought...
"All in good time..." interrupted the mystery agent. He shuffled his
papers, which Kiniro guessed were absolutely nothing to do with any of
his group. The man then stood up, and motioned to the door. "Come this
way," he said. "The boss wants to talk to all three of you."
Kiniro and Sneakers both shuddered. They hadn't expected this. Who could
guess where this would lead?
Murasaki on the other hand, was unperturbed. She had absolutely no idea
who the 'boss' was.
