I thought it would be nice to repost in full the "Out of Phase" mini-series from May. This was an interesting story... Sooooooooo... While I buy time by you all reading it again, here it is, complete! PRESENTED BY IcyPikachu's Caterpie Forest Archives! [PW!] Out of Phase: Part I [PW!] Out of Phase: Part II [PW!] Out of Phase: Part III [PW!] Out of Phase: Part IV [PW!] Out of Phase: Part V ======================================== At this point in Icy's adventures, Icy and Clan Caterpie were safe inside the Lavender Town Pokémon Center. After saving the Pokémon Tower from Team Rocket, they got ready for their next adventure. Icy, InsaneLlama, Tauras, Phoo, and Nova packed out their bags and began their long journey to Fuchsia City. "Let's visit the Safari Zone while we' re there." "Don't you already ... have a ton of pokemon, Icy," Phoo asked. "Well... yes... but I wanna see what others I can find. I still take care of them all...," Icy said in reply. They continued walking. They were nearing the docks when they ran into a fisherman. "Ahhh matey. How's about a pokemon battle. I haven't seen many people here lately," the fisherman said to the group. As usual, Icy volunteered to do battle. "I'll battle you," he said into the translator. As usual, the fisherman was shocked that a talking Pikachu wanted to battle him. "Uhhh... very well... One on one! GO Vaporeon!" The group was amazed to see the old man actually had some good pokemon. Vaporeon appeared in front of Icy. "A water poké, this will be easy!" "That's what you think." Icy prepared to fire his thunderbolt at Vaporeon, but for he could, Vaporeon's tail slammed into him. "AGGHHHHH!!!!" he screamed as he went flying through the air. Then, all the sudden, he vanished. "Wha... where'd you go?" Nova said in confusion. "I... I don't know." Insane said with equal uncertainty. The fisherman looked at Vaporeon who was immensely pleased with its victory. "Wow... I never knew you were that strong..." No one knew where Icy had vanished too. No one except... ======================================== The world seemed different now. The water was gone, along with the dock. Tauras, Phoo, Nova, Insane, they were all gone. The Vaporeon and its trainer were gone too. He found himself surrounded by stars and darkness. A voice called out to him. "Welcome Icy. So, you finally made it." A deep and sinister laugh rang out. "Whe... Where am I? Who are you?" Icy asked childishly. Fear gripped him tighter then anything he'd ever experienced. "Don't you recognize this place?" The voice began growing louder as it spoke. Soon, Icy saw the dark figure approaching him. "Don't you recognize me? I told you I'd have my revenge..." The figure slowly came into focus. "Giovanni?" Icy said timidly. "Am I?" the figure puzzled. It transformed again to resemble Mew. "Mimic? Doppler?" Icy was becoming very confused. "Wrong again... Really Icy, I had a little more faith in you..." "Mewtwo..." Icy said... ======================================== "Mewtwo...," Icy said coldly. The dark figure quadrupled in size and revealed its true form. "Well, that took you long enough," Mewtwo said sarcastically. Icy looked at his surroundings again. "What is this place?" Mewtwo sneered at him again. "Sure. You'd want me to connect the dots for you. Lead you from A to B to C. Well, it's not that simple. You know Icy, I had much higher expectations of you." "Is this the Void?" "You're close." "What do you mean, close?" "I'll give you that one for free. We are still within the space-time continuum. This is a place known as the Ethereal Plane. Normal time is progressing while we are here." "How did you bring me here? Why?" "There you go again. You ask way too many questions. But you never ask the right one." "Stop talking in riddles. What question should I ask?" "Oh you're going to want to know the answer to it. It's been bothering you for months." Mewtwo chuckled to himself. Icy's anger had started. "What? Tell me what you know. What is the right question?" "I'll give you a hint," he said quickly. Slowing his voice down, he continued, "It has to do with, your past." Icy could have sworn Mewtwo sneered maliciously at him after finishing his sentence. "What from my past! Tell me! Tell me Mewtwo!" Icy's rage was growing by the minute. He tried greatly to hold in his Pikachu instincts, knowing Mewtwo needed but a single blast to defeat him. "Temper temper. You just can't figure it out. One of the most gifted psychics in the world, the others being myself and Sabrina, and you still can't even figure out the right question." Icy lost it finally screaming, "Enough puzzles! Tell me what you know NOW!!!" With that, he charged straight for Mewtwo. Psychic energy engulfed his body as her flew through the air. Just before he could land his attack, his body felt an enormous amount of pain. "BUFFALO CHIPS! Where in the heck did ICY GO! He was there one minute, but now he's gone. Even my old pal FlamingHorse couldn't track his trail now." said Insanellama. "This is scaring me" said Nova. "Believe me stranger things have happened" said Insanellama grinning over at his rapidash. Insanellama paced back and fourth, spurs ringing with each step. He casually drew and field stripped one of his Colt .45's. As he passed by Rapidash he pulled his cleaning kit out of its saddlebags and kept moving. "Well, it's gonna be a while before he talks," said Taurus. "Whenever he gets this way he's doing some heavy thinking." Insanellama continued cleaning his gun. Then he put it back together. As he passed by rapidash, in one fluid motion, he holstered his weapon, put up his cleaning kit, re-drew and fired at a knothole in tree spitting it on his bullet. He pulled out a screwdriver, adjusted something and said in a low voice. "Site's a little to the right." he fired another round, "Much better." He holstered his weapon yet again, and turned to the group. "Well, best thing I think we can do, is take our time gettin to fuchsia, lest someone's layin up for us." A rustle in the bushes caught his attention. He started to draw, but saw it was to small to be a human. A charmander slipped out of the bushes. Insanellama unleashed Squirtle. "SQUIRTLE BUBBLE NOW!" He didn't want to make it faint but he wanted it weakened. It had the desired effect. "POKEBALL GO!" Charmander casually sidestepped. Then in a strange gesture which insanellama later interpreted as charmander wanting a friend, charmander walked over to the pokeball, leaned down with its nose, rolled it over near rapidash, and pressed the button. Charmander went into the pokeball. Insanellama called him out. "Howdy there pardner." said Insanellama. "CHAR CHAR!" "Well, let's go on up ahead a little ways and set up camp," said Insanellama, "I'll watch our back trail, Taurus, u take point." They moved off into the night. ======================================== Icy's body flew freely through the ethereal plane until Mewtwo psychicly pulled it back towards him. "Foolish child. You will never be able to defeat me. You obviously aren't ready for the information I have. Even if I shared it with you, you couldn't even hope to change the events that took place. Perhaps our paths will cross once again Icy. Until then, I return you to your previous time frame." In a flash, a sunny road replaced the dark world with some trainers walking by. Icy's almost lifeless body fell from the sky. InsaneLlama was petting his new Charmander. Its flame glowed with strength. "He's such a great find. Not even the Charmanders that Prof. Oak gives out are this nice." He was about the pet his Charmander again when something heavy hit him on the head. Icy's little Pikachu body smashed into InsaneLlama causing him to fall over. "What the?!?" Insane said amazed. "Hehe... It's raining Pikachus!" Nova said, not knowing it was Icy. Phoo walked over to Insane and the Pikachu. "Oh my... It's Icy!" Phoo sent out his Chansey to try to revive Icy but it was no good. "We have to get him to a Pokemon Center quick or he might die!" Icy had suffered major burns all over his body from Mewtwo's counter attack. He was hardly breathing. InsaneLlama took Icy in his arms, saddled up his Rapidash and set off for Fuchsia with the others close behind. Insanellama had Icy in his lap. he had moved the saddlebags to his ponyta so rapidash could move faster. To further decrease weight, he had put his saddle on his Tauros and was riding bareback. There was a lead rope from the tauros to ponyta. Insanellama turned and yelled to the group. "Get to fuchsia as fast as you can, Rapidash, Icy and I are goin max speed for the pokécenter," with that he snapped the reins gently, and Rapidash quickened to a pace that made the wind thunder in his ears. All of a sudden there was a flame cocoon surrounding them, and ground was moving by in a solid green-brown blur. Insanellama pulled out his whip, now that they had slowed down slightly, and managed to grip the door handle with it. He jerked back and rode straight for the desk through the open door. Rapidash came to a stop inches from the desk. Insanellama quickly dismounted. "Sorry about the mess mam, but this is an emergency." he handed Icy to the nurse. "I'll do all I can," she said. She summoned a chansey stretcher and rushed into the Operating Room. Insanellama took rapidash outside and walked him around the center for about half an hour to cool him down. If he stopped completely after that much of a workout, rapidash would get very sick. Just as he was finishing up, the others walked into town. Insanellama walked back into the center with rapidash and took a seat to wait for them to walk the short distance. When they got in, as a show of respect, he stood up and shook everyone's hand. "Icy's been in the OR for about 30 minutes, glad to see ya'll again." said Insanellama. "Watching you go up ahead was AWESOME," said Nova," till you were out of sight that is, which didn't take long." Insanellama grinned he couldn't help but feel pride in his life long pal. He pulled out a carrot. "Here Nova, feed him this." Nova walked over a little nervously. "Won't he burn me?" asked Nova. "Not if he trusts ya, and he does, since I trust ya." said Insanellama. Nova fed the carrot to Rapidash without incident. Insanellama walked over and pulled the saddle off tauros. Then he removed the saddlebags from Ponyta. He got out some "Walkin' L brand tauros food," and fed it to tauros. He fed ponyta a few carrots. Then he returned to where rapidash and Nova were. He tossed nova another carrot. With his pokemon fed Insanellama collapsed onto one of the couches, removing his hat and wiping his brow. He tossed his hat across the room, it caught on one of the hat-rack hooks just as he had planned. He walked over to one of the wall phones and placed a call. "Hi Insanellama, good to see ya again," said his brother Chaoticllama. "Good to see you too, hey can you rush about 5 tauros to fuchsia city ASAP. I'll pay for 'em, but I have some friends I want to surprise." this was whispered into the phone. "Sure, they'll be flying Pidgeott air, expect them in an hour. And you don't have to pay one red cent for them. Bye." said Chaoticllama. "Thanx, bye" said Insanellama and walked over to the others. ======================================== Phoo hid amongst Clan Caterpie, as he was not visible from inside their mass. Insanellama and Nova were talking to each other. Phoo was a bit worried. He thought, "Hmm... I wonder... what could have possibly happened to Icy? Could it have been... ??? Hmm... quite possibly what I expected. This... is bad, very very bad. I'd better... go speak to him..." Phoo scurried up to the door to the ER, but found it guarded by a pair of Chanseys. "Hmm... well, let's see. This could be a bundle... Aurelia, please come out now!" Phoo said aloud, as Aurelia the Chansey emerged from her pokeball in a flash of light. Phoo's claw lit up with white energy, and touched Aurelia, giving her commands via mental communication. The Chansey nodded in understanding, and Phoo jumped into Aurelia's pouch, along with Aurelia's egg. *** From the perspective of Aurelia *** Aurelia moved towards the door. The other Chanseys looked at her. "Chansey, chan chan chan-sii!" one of them cried out in a beautiful voice, putting a cute hospital hat on Aurelia's head, and letting her pass. She felt Phoo giving her directions to where he felt Icy's room to be. Numerous Nurse Joys rushed up and down the long, sterile hallway, giving Aurelia broad smiles. Aurelia finally came to the door that Phoo had directed her to, room number 29. Aurelia jumped right through the unlocked door, which swung open with her force. She bounded into the room, and Phoo got knocked out of her pouch. Aurelia smiled a glorious, proud grin. *** Back to the perspective of Phoo *** Phoo looked up, after tumbling from Aurelia's pouch. Icy was lying down in a bed, with IVs connected to him everywhere. Icy's body was horribly scarred with burns, and he was semi-conscious. A monitor showing his heart' s beating, however, did show that Icy had a stable heartbeat. Phoo stealthily crawled up the foot of the bed, and peered over it. The bed was much too large for Icy, of course, and had a white sheet on it. Even though Icy was in a bad condition, his eyes showed a sparkle of intelligence and revenge. Phoo crawled up to Icy's end of the bed. He looked up at Icy, who still didn't notice him. Phoo spoke aloud, "Hello... Icy. It seems... something of a horrid nature has been at you. May I take a guess? ... Mewtwo, perchance?" Icy was a little spooked by seeing Phoo appear right next to him, but responded, "Yes, you are quite correct. How did you know? Some sort of talented guess?" Phoo stood still for a moment, contemplating whether to tell Icy or not. "Here, this will make it a lot clearer to you... and easier for me," Phoo said to Icy. Phoo lifted up one of his small cockroach legs, which started to shine brightly. It came down slowly and touched Icy. The mental link was established. Phoo thought to Icy, "There... speaking is much too difficult for... me." Icy responded, "Well, how intriguing. Here in the same room, a psychic Pikachu and a psychic cockroach. What a scarce possibility. So anyway, how did you know it was Mewtwo who attacked me?" "Well... you did ask before why I was here..." "Yes?" "Hmm... I will make it clear to you, Icy. I will not hide my mission objectives any longer from you. I am here to help you defeat the Mewtwo." "What? That is not what I would have expected." "It is the truth, so listen. I came to this plane from Celadon City, hearing that someone had encountered... and survived... the wrath of Mewtwo. I went searching all over Celadon for this being, until I discovered it was you." "..." "Yes, hmm... well, I have been tracking you, and I have come to you. You, Icy... are a hope for this world. Mewtwo... unbridled, could destroy everything you hold dear. Icy... you are one of a kind, you know." "Yes, but what exactly are you referring to?" "Icy... you were once human, I know that. You have experienced life on both sides of intelligence here: human and pokemon. Mewtwo's fury is aimed at humans, but he has sympathy for pokemon. You... Icy, could..." "Cross the gap for Mewtwo to see across?" "Yes, of course. You catch on quickly. Icy... your power is also great enough that... you can survive when Mewtwo attacks you. This has been shown... and proven." Icy was a bit flattered by this comment. "You can help us defeat Mewtwo. We can curb his vengeance, and possibly... just possibly, somehow lower his power. I am here... to help fight this evil, this coming darkness. I myself... could not complete this task... for although I may have the power, I am not from this plane." "It figures. There are few cockroaches of your stature down here," Icy thought, with a chuckle. "Hmm... correct you are. For the present, all that concerns me is that I make sure no future harm should come to you, and that you build up your power. Eventually, as fate command it, you will meet Mewtwo again." "Why wait for him?" "Coming to Mewtwo would be suicide. Only to let him come to you would be safe. Oh, Icy... I have so much more to tell you, but now is not the time." Icy and Phoo paused, and tried to understand what had been said. Meanwhile, Aurelia tasted some refreshing hospital water from a nearby faucet. -------------------------------------------------------- Well, that surely was an interesting trip down memory lane, wasn't it?
