"Another Pikachu bites the dust, here at the Pokemon League Tournament," said the commentator. "If you're just joining us now, the feature match is just about to begin.... two gym leaders, Brock and Blaine, are going head-to-head against each other in an all-out battle. "It looks like Brock has chosen Vulpix, a bizarre choice against Blaine. Blaine is using his best bet: his near-undefeated Magmar! Heeere... we go." "Vul! Vul! Vulpiiix!" "Maaagmaaar!" The two fire Pokemon stared each other down until the bell sounded. Magmar immediately charged forward in a blaze. Vulpix lowered its back and jumped to the side, turning to face Magmar when it landed. "Vulpix, FLAMETHROWER!" shouted Brock. "VUUUULLL!" Vulpix shot out a huge blast of fire at Magmar, who was trying not to crash into the wall. "MAAAG!" Magmar made a deep groaning sound as the blast of fire hit its back. It slammed into the wall and fell backwards, flat on its face. It jumped back onto its feet and fired back its own, more powerful Flamethrower. Vulpix dove behind a rock, easily dodging the blaze. "Don't waste any more time, Magmar!" cautioned Blaine. "Charge up Fire Blast!" "Magmar... Magmar... Magmar." Magmar began to gather its strength while Brock's mind raced. One successful Fire Blast and the battle was over for Vulpix. "Vul!" Vulpix became too impatient and decided not to wait for Brock. It leaped out behind the rock and faced Magmar. Vulpix then charged forward at greatly accelerating speed. Magmar reflexively released the blast it had been charging at Vulpix. Brock winced, but Vulpix raced on, still gaining more and more speed. It crashed through the Fire Blast, eliminating it. The crowd let out a huge gasp as Vulpix continued to gain power for its Quick Attack at the vulnerable Magmar. Magmar was hurled back twenty feet at impact, nearly defeated. Blaine was completely shocked. "Magmar, get up! Shake it off! You can't lose to that puny thing!" scolded Blaine. Magmar reluctantly got back up on its feet in time to dodge another of Vulpix's Quick Attacks. Magmar bolted towards Vulpix, who was trying to right itself and turn around. Magmar swung its fiery fist hard into Vulpix's side, nearly knocking it out for good. Vulpix yelped and scampered back to the shelter of the large rock before Magmar could finish it off. "Vulpix!" shouted Brock, worriedly. "Be careful! Confuse Ray before it's too late!" Vulpix nodded at Brock and released a transparent blue beam from the top of its head. The beam circled around the rock and homed in on Magmar. Magmar was struck by the beam, and suddenly lost concentration. It stumbled around the arena in a daze. Vulpix then went out into the open and raised its six tails high into the air. Magmar turned towards it and followed it, a child-like grin on its face. Suddenly, its head shook and its eyes focused again. "Vul!?" Vulpix, getting ready to blast Magmar one more time, was suddenly surrounded in a smog. Magmar was shooting out smog from every direction. By the time the smog had cleared, Magmar had its fist raised, about to pummel Vulpix with Fire Punches. Again, it became confused. Magmar dropped to the ground and rolled, trying to put out its own fire. Vulpix was still coughing smog. "Mag mar... Mag mar..." Magmar stood up and tried to refocus itself. Vulpix saw its opportunity and smashed itself into Magmar's back. Magmar doubled over and was still. The crowd was dead silent. "Wow, what a shocker!" exclaimed the commentator, suddenly. "Blaine's masterful Magmar has been... defeated, by a Vulpix! Be sure to come back for tomorrow's feature fight!" TBC... Sirius Quote of the day: "I dunno. I've heard things about beef."
