After staying the night there, they headed to Vermillion Gym, where the episode begins. "Okay, here it goes." Randy opened the door to the gym. "Hey, Randy! Howzit going?" Lt. Surge greeted Randy. "You know Randy?" asked Lisa. "Yup, girlie. His grandfather was my C.O. back in 'Nam!" "Wow." "I guess yer here to get a thunderbadge." "Yup." "Alrighty, one pokemon each." "Okay." "Go, Raichu!" "Go, Magus!" Instead of the usual spoon, the Magus was holding a shovel. "Why do you have a shovel?"asked Randy. <<The Magus is always prepared for anything.>> the Magus said. "Okay, Magus. Confusion." "Raichu! Thunderbolt!" Raichu used thunderbolt, which zapped the Magus. He retaliated with a blast of confusion. "Raichu! Thunder punch!" "Magus! Dig!" Raichu tried to punch the Magus, but he dodged, and dug underground. "What? Raichu! Body slam him when he comes up!" When the Magus dug himself out, Raichu body slammed the opening of the hole, and stuck himself with the shovel. "Raichu!" shouted Lt. Surge. <<Sorry about that. That wasn't supposed to happen.>>the Magus apologized. "Then what was?" The ground that the injured raichu was standing on collapsed, and he fell into a ditch. <<That was.>> "Raichu! jump out of the hole!" Surge said. "Rai! Rai!" Raichu called. Raichu tried to get out of the ditch, but couldn't. Raichu! Thunderbolt!" "Rai!" Raichu hit the Magus with electricity, but he wasn't affected. "What's going on?" Surge asked. "He's using his shovel as a ground."said Randy. <<The Magus is smarter than the average kadabra.>> The Magus shot a few blasts of confusion in order to knock Raichu out. "Well, Randy, you've proven yourself worthy of this thunderbadge." Lt. Surge gave Randy the badge. "Thanks." said Randy. "See ya later!" "Bye!" After saying goodbye to Randy's father and brother, Randy, Lisa, Trunks, Cyrus and Piccolo headed to Celadon City. "So Randy, you have three badges now?" asked Lisa. "Yup."said Randy. "I thought so."
