Recap:
In Viridian City, Smasher found out that the Wiggling Brother's
Traveling Circus and Carnival was in Town. This was the perfect
opportunity for him to challenge one of the Circus's "Flying Gym"
leaders, Robin, Hawk, or Pidge, for the Tornadobadge. Though the badge
is worthless for Pokemon League entrance, it would still be a pretty
cool prize.
However, Robin, Hawk and Pidge only fight on appointment, and Smasher
got sidetracked by his rival, Alan. With only fifteen minutes to go
before the final match in Viridian, Smasher needed to book a match... if
there was an opening.
Story:
Fortunately for Smasher, someone backed out of their match with Hawk at
the last second. Hawk was a tough-looking competitor, and few could
stand his homophobic tendancies.
"Great," Smasher said to no one in particular. "Why couldn't've someone
turned chicken against his little brother Pidge or his sister Robin?" He
ultimately decided that one was as good as the other. Besides, he's
seen their shows before. He knew what they were capable of.
Standing near the performer's entranced watch as Hawk, Robin and Pidge,
a.k.a the Flying Graysons, went through their acrobatic routine. The
main event would come soon after: A Pokemon battle, each Grayson
fighting their own opponent one-on-one in each ring under the big top.
It was a proud Wiggling Brother's tradition for about eight years now.
Many people came to see it.
Smasher released his Zubat. Since Ice, his Cubone, was already out, as
well as Shuriken the Staryu and Cliff Diver the Clefairy, he decided
all four of his Pokemon should watch. They might learn a thing or two.
The Grayson's routine ended and the crowd cheered. They climbed back
down to the floor and went into separate rings.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," announced the Ringmaster. "It is time for our
main event! A Wiggling Brother's tradition: Three simultaneous
one-on-one Pokemon matches with the circus's Flying Gym leaders.
"Awaiting their opponents: In the blue ring, center ring, and red ring,
respectively, Pidge, Hawk and Robin.... The Flying Graysons!"
The crowd cheered. Ramstien's "Du Hast" started playing. A spotlight
shown on Alan, Smasher's rival, as he made his way to his ring.
"Approaching the red ring," continued the Ringmaster, "Hailing from
Lavender Town with two badges and being accompanied to the ring with his
Oddish, Buster, Alannnnn Sandstoooooone!"
The german rock group's song generally producing bad vibes, the crowd
started booing. The song as well as Alan's attire made him look like a
heel. He didn't care. Well, it hurt a little, but he was here for the
Tornadobadge.
Smasher adjusted his Marowak helmet as he awaited his cue. A spotlight
shone down on him and Micheal Jackson's "Beat It" played. Smasher looked
down at his Staryu.
"Well, Shuriken," he said, "Let's get extreme!" With that, Smasher and
Shuriken got on their skateboards and skated towards the center ring.
"Hawk's opponent," continued the Ringmaster, "A skateboarder also from
Lavender Town, being accompanied to the ring by his Staryu, Shuriken,
Adam, The Smasher, Samsonnnnnnnn!"
A synchronized Smasher and Shuriken skated out to the center ring. They
did several laps in opposing directions around the ring and Hawk, who
was now wearing a pair of slacks over his acrobat uniform. Smasher
strayed from his path just enough to smack Alan upside the head. The
crowd cheered at it. Alan tried to ignore them.
Smasher didn't quite catch who the third challenger was, but this person
had come quite a ways to get here. The challenger walked out to the
ring to the tune of a popular song to challenge the visibly
eight-year-old Pidge.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," the Ringmaster was now in the process of
wrapping up. "LLLet's get ready to
rrrrrumblllllllllllllllllllle.........!"
"Fearow, go!" commanded Hawk.
"Shuriken! it's time to get extreme!" cried Smasher.
Nearby, Smasher could hear a scream of surprise coming from one of the
challengers as Pidge called out his mighty Pidgeot. Nearby, he could
see Alan's paniced look as he was introduced to Robin's Scyther. If he
had the time, Smasher could've savored the irony that the two
challengers were about to have their Pokemon's butts handed to them by
their easy-looking opponents. He knew that Hawk was the least
experienced of the three from other matches he had seen in years past,
but he would still have his work cut out for him.
"Shuriken! Spinning attack!" Smasher commaned.
"Fearow! Wing attack!" ordered Hawk.
The Staryu, its skateboard now affixed to its back, leapt up and spun
towards the Fearow. The large bird smacked it aside with its large
wing.
"Shuriken! Recover!" shouted Smasher.
"Scyther! Slash attack!" commanded Robin.
The giant mantis creature smacked Alan's oddish with a giant claw,
knocking Buster back a few feet. Alan decided to pull out all the
stops. He took out a PokeFlute and placed it on his lips. He played a
wild, rotating tune on it, thus commanding Buster to its signature move,
the Groove Buster.
Upon hearing the flute's sweet music, Buster leapt to its feet. It
leapt into a leaping, spinning dirvish. It danced around its opponent,
who was unable to land a blow. Alan repeated a couple notes and held
the patteren. Buster leapt up into the insect's face, landing several
blows from spinning kicks.
Alan stopped playing the flute.
"Buster! Sleep powder!" Alan commanded. The Oddish released a cloud of
sparkling powder. The Scyther's eyes unfocused and it stood unsteadily.
Scyther fell asleep!
"Buster! Absorb!" Alan continued. Buster placed a foot on Robin's
Scyther and began to drain the life from him. Hmmm, Alan thought, this
may take a while.
Meanwhile, Pidge, despite having the advantage of surprise, was soon
defeated. His challenger won the blue Tornadobadge for a quick match.
[NS: Unless that's was red. I forget now]
"Fearow! Swift attack!" commanded Hawk.
"Shuriken! Teleport!" countered Smasher.
The Fearow hovered in the air, held aloft by its huge wings. It preened
itself for a moment, then spat out hundreds of homing-stars at its
opponent. Shuriken quickly teleported onto the Fearow's back. It began
to squirm in an attempt to get the star-shaped Pokemon of its back and
was hit by its own Swift-stars.
Hawk growled at Smasher's cleverness. Swift never misses, unless there
happens to be something in the way.
"Fearow! Sky attack!" roared Hawk.
"Shuriken! Spinning attack once more!" dictated Smasher.
The bird flew upwards, glowing as it gathered energy for its next
attack. This left the Fearow open for being repeatedly hit by
Shuriken's spinning limbs. Hawk's Fearow broke away from the Staryu's
attack and flew off a bit. It then zoomed back, leaving a blazing trail
behind it. Smasher had to think fast.
"GAURDRAIL SMASH!" yelled Smasher.
Still spinning in the air, Shuriken pulled the skateboard off its back.
The starshape held it with two of its five arms as its opponent quickly
drew closer. The board connected with the Fearow's head, sending it off
its course. Fearow's Sky attack missed!
"Fearow! Drill Peck!" shouted Hawk.
"Shuriken! Counter attack!" commanded Smasher.
The Fearow flew off and then swerved for a return pass at the
still-hovering Staryu. It spun as it shot like an arrow directly at
Shuriken's gem-like core. The starshape bided its time as its
opponent drew closer, then moved to the side at the last second. The
Fearow's long neck was slammed against one of Shuriken's arms,
effectively clothes-lining it.
"Shuriken! Take down!" hastened Smasher.
Before Hawk could react, Shuriken zoomed downward with the Fearow still
on its arm. They slammed into the ground, kicking up a big pile of dust
as they hit Rock Bottom.
In the last ring, Buster had finished feasting on the Scyther's life
energies. Its Absorb attacks brought up to full health, winning Alan
the red Tornadobadge for least damage taken.
When the dust settled, two Pokemon were lying in the dirt. An official
ran up to inspect the damage. He looked for some sign of consciousness.
C'mon, Shuriken, Smasher mentally urged. We gotta win this thing.
The official stood up. Just before he declared the match a draw,
Shuriken began to glow. It shakily stood up, but stood up it did.
Shuriken wasn't evolving. It was just using its Recover move.
"The Silver Tornadobadge for most impressive victory is... Adam, the
Smasher, Samson!" announced the Ringmaster. The crowd cheered as the
official handed Smasher the Silver Tornadobadge. Smasher made a victory
pose, holding the badge above his head, and the crowd went wild.
Later, after most of the people had left, Pidgelit a cigerette and took
a drag off it.
"Y'know those things will stunt your growth," warned Smasher.
Pidge looked at Smasher as if he were an idiot.
"When you've been eight years old for ten years," explained Pidge, "You
tend not to worry about such things."
"So... Robin," began Alan. "You have a Scyther?"
"Yeah. You wanna make something of it?" she snapped.
Hawk put a hand on Smasher's shoulder.
"Next time we're in the same time town, be sure to stop by," Hawk
requested. "I'm going to beat you next time."
"We'll see," said Smasher. "I'll catch you guys later."
They said their goodbyes and Smasher, Alan and their respective Pokemon
left for the Viridian City Pokemon Center. Alan came up beside Smasher.
"Did you know Robin had a Scyther?" Alan asked.
"Yep," answered Smasher.
"Since when?" inquired a somewhat incredulous Alan.
"Since I first saw her in action a few years ago," Smasher replied.
Alan balked. "We'll, I never!"
"Maybe you should," laughed Smasher as he took off on his skateboard.
"Hey! Come back here!" said Alan as he chased after his rival.
The End....
(ominous laughter)
...Or is it?
