From: Tech Weaver <TheOver-Powerer@webtv.net> Subject: [PW] From Fire to Ice. Date: Tuesday, November 16, 1999 6:59 PM Smasher knelt down in front of Chapuco the Growlithe and put a hand on its shoulder. "Chapuco, I know that we haven't been through a lot, and I'd like to get to know you better, but I think its better if you went home. My home. I'd like to train you myself, but since you only understand and speak Spanish I can't do much with you. I don't think I can teach you English while I'm on the road, and that's why I'm sending you home. Do you understand?" Chapuco thought for a moment. Despite not completely understanding the words, the Growlithe got the message loud and clear. It nodded. "Good," Smasher said, smiling. He pulled Chapuco's Pokeball from under the plaid shirt tied around his waist. "Chapuco, return." As the puppy Pokemon disappeared in a flash of red light, Smasher heard it utter the words, "Adios.... Jeffe." Afterwords, Smasher paused. When Chapuco learns English, he would have to ask it what "Jeffe" means. Smasher went over to the Viridian City Pokemon Center's computer and dialed his home in Lavender Town. Eventually, a graphic with the words "Awaiting Connection" was replaced by the face of a young boy. "Adam!" announced the boy. Smasher smiled. There were few people who he let call him by his real name in casual conversation. "Hey Joey, what's up?" Adam greeted. "Where are you?" asked Joey. "We've been worried sick since..." "I'm fine," said Adam. "I'm in Viridian City. Hey, is Nick there?" "Yeah, just a minute," Joey's face was replace with a graphic saying "Please Hold." Soon, a picture of Adam's stepfather appeared. "Adam!" said his stepfather. "We've been worried sick since..." "I know, Nick, Joey told me," interrupted Adam. "Listen, could you do me a favor?" "Uh, sure, what?" said Nick. Smasher showed him the Pokeball. "I have this Growlithe here and I need you to teach it English for me," he said. "No kidding?" said Nick. "Why?" "Because it only speaks Spanish." "Spanish?" "Its a long story. Will you do it?" "OK, sure. Send him over." Smasher placed the Pokeball into the matter transferrance module attached to the PC. The ball glowed for a few seconds, and there was an effect resembling glitter being stirred around in water. Within seconds, the ball was sent from Viridian City to Lavender Town over the internet. "Thanks, man, I owe you one," said Smasher. "While we're sending living creatures over phone lines," began Nick, "You accidently left one of your Pokemon behind." "Ice!" said Smasher with a look of anguish on his face. "I knew I forgot something! Send him over!" "Can do, good buddy," said Nick. Once again, the matter transferrance module glowed and glittered. A new Pokeball appeared where Chapuco's sat. "Thanks Nick," said Smasher. "See ya." With that, Smasher closed the link to his house and grabbed Ice's Pokeball. "All right. C'mon out, Ice!" Smasher opened the Pokeball and a Cubone appeared in a flash of light. It blinked, shook its head, and snorted. "Cubone?" said the Cubone, looking up at Smasher. "Cubone!" It was releived to see him. It hadn't heard from Smasher since... "Welcome back to my team, Ice," said Smasher. "You already know Shuriken." The Staryu skated up to Ice and gave it a high-five (high-one?). "This is Cliff Diver," Smasher continued, placing the Clefairy before Ice. Smasher released a Zubat from another Pokeball. "And this is Zubat." Cliff shook paws with Ice, and Zubat gave it a little greeting screech. "Now that we've all been introduced," began Smasher, putting on his Marowak helmet, "let's roll." Suddenly, Ice started growling. Without warning, the Cubone leapt onto Smasher, pulled the helmet off his head and threw it to the ground. It continued growling at the head gear as the helmet lay there. Smasher was taken aback by the sudden outburst. "What was that all about?" asked Smasher. Ice only replied by weilding its bone club at the helmet in a threatening manner. Smasher just shook his head and held up two Pokeballs. "Ice, Zubat, return." The two Pokemon disappeared in a flash of red light. Smasher put his helmet back on and picked up Cliff Diver. "We should get going," said Smasher. "It's a long way to Pewter."
