>"Psychic, but..." Seth and Aerie blinked in unison, then queried as
>one, "*WE'RE* doing it?!?"
>
>"Exactly. Or, at least, so I would suspect. Not consciously, of
>course, but more than likely at some level you can control. Now, the
>problem is, *how* to control it? This is like nothing I've ever seen
>before...but given the nature of the problem, maybe a psychic researcher
>could help." Bill straightened out of his contemplative stoop. "I'll
>call Sabrina."
>
>Aerie rushed to intercept him as he began to walk out the door. "That's
>probably not a good idea. She's...kinda not pleased at me for
>existing."
>
>The scientist raised an eyebrow. "What'd you do?"
>
>"Remember who I said my father was?"
>
>"...oh." Bill sighed. "I would not wish your heritage on anyone,
>madam."
>
>"It has its advantages...but you're right." She leered at Seth. "I'd
>rather have his dad. His *real* dad."
>
>Seth frowned. "But then we'd be brother and sister, not..."
>
>Aerie rushed back, instantly cradling him. "And I'd love you just the
>same."
>
>Bill held up a finger. "..." Deciding better than to comment on morės
>he did not personally konw, he turned back towards the door. "I'll call
>Sabrina anyway. Hating someone for one's ancestors is just bigotry,
>even if your father *is* Doppler. It's irresponsibe at best, and I
>doubt even someone of her emotions will persist in this childishness
>once she hears your reasons."
>
>"Siiian?" Slasher, just for a very tiny moment, lost his normal feline
>cool as he let his confusion show.
>
>Bill looked at Slasher, then at Seth and Aerie. "Umm...?"
>
>It took Seth a moment to figure out what Bill meant. "Oh. Slasher
>thought he misheard your description of Sabrina. In our time, she
>wasn't the most emotional of people, and she's even more so now."
>
>Bill smiled. "She might not show it outside, but she *feels* inside.
>It's part of her powers. Her veneer's solid as rock, but if you can dig
>beneath it, she's one of the most passionate women I know."
>
>"Sabrina...?" "Passionate...?" "Sian...?"
>
>The scientist chuckled to himself. "Or maybe I'm just a foolish old
>man, who sees what he wants to see. In any case, let me go call her and
>we'll see if she can be persuaded to help, ok?" He left before anyone
>could protest.
>
>Seth and Aerie looked at each other, then Seth morphed into Bill. "Or
>maybe I'm just a foolish old man..."
>
>Aerie switched into a girl barely over the age of consent. "Let fools
>lie." She helped Seth onto the ground, straddling him during the final
>lowering.
>
>"Sian," Slasher snorted, turning towards the door.
>
>Aerie shot him an annoyed glance. "No, Slasher, we *won't* interrupt
>his phone call. But could you close the door, please?"
>
>"Sian..." He padded out the door, looping his tail at the last minute
>around the still-slumbering Jolteon's tail so as to drag the eeveelution
>out with him, and nudged the door shut when they were both out.

Bill fell back into his favorite chair with a groan. Despite the new security
system and his new hand trained Jolteon, he was still unable to keep out the
tourists, weirdos, and crooks. In the course of only a few hours he'd had
various people troop through his lighthouse, vandels waltz in, who assaulted
him and threw his lab into a disarray, a couple of Ditto, one of which was
clearly insane and continued to invade on his privacy, and recently two others
and a Persian, which seemed to be on verge of the psychotic themselves. And
yet....
Tucking his hand into his breast pocket, Bill drew out a Pokedex. It was his
own custom built device, and he rarely went anywhere without it. He clicked it
open. It recorded the presence of any Pokemon recently encountered, enabled or
not. Doing a quick search, he found a reading for the time he'd been in the
presence of Seth and Aerie.
"Ditto," the Pokedex chimed, "A transform pokemon. Capable of copying an
enemy's genetic cod-" Bill tapped off the voice mode. Despite the reading, a
yellow light was flashing below the screen. Unknown.
"Very peculiar."
Closing the Pokedex with a snap, Bill pushed himself up in the chair. The
reading only made their strange story more believable. In which case, it was
important that he finally get around to calling Sabrina. He suddenly felt very
guilty, making Seth and Aerie wait so many hours alone in his lab. He was just
distracted so easily, and all the going-ons made it worse. Slipping the
Pokedex into his pocket, he walked over to pick up his Bellsprout phone. Some
told him it was awfully tacky, but he loved it. He scanned through his digital
phonebook onscreen.
Then the Bellsprout rang.
"Oh!" He answered the line. "Hello?"
"Hello, Bill."
Bill blinked as the screen flashed to life.
"Sabrina!? You must be psychic!" He beamed.
Onscreen, the Saffron gym leader sweatdropped.
***
"Oooh, Seth, you are bad," Aerie giggled.
"I just hope someone sends us pictures," Seth snickered.
"Think he'll know it was us?"
"Not a chance. Remember, this place was broken into." Seth settled back down
next to Aerie. "Besides, Giovanni never caught me." He smiled and carressed
her cheek before giving her a long loving kiss.
"SIAN!" There was a muffled skritching at the door.
Seth blinked his eyes open and turned to look at the door. "Slash-" Aerie
frowned and drew him back into a hard probing kiss. "-Mmpph!" Seth shivered
and pulled her close as they slid to the floor. Here we go again... Slasher
could wait.
"PURRRSIAAAAAANNN!!!!" The doors were double-kicked open, courtesy of
Slasher's new Jolteon friend. Slasher bounded over to his friends pressed
together on the floor. "SIAANN!!"
"Arrgh, I give," Seth muttered. Aerie and Seth sat up and gave Slasher an
irritated look. Aerie noticed the two pillow cases Slasher and Jolteon were
carrying.
"Hey, what are those for?"
"JOLT!"
Aerie looked into Jolteon's pillowcase. Reaching in, she pulled out a handful
of Rare Candy. "Yikes. Does Bill know you're eating this stuff?"
"Oh, I can't believe I forgot....it must be Halloween!" Seth laughed and looked
into Slasher's pillowcase. "So you went trick or treating with Jolteon? I'm
surprised people hand out stuff to pokemon...." He paused. "Hey, wait a
min..." Seth pulled a handful of cash and change from Slasher's pillowcase.
He raised an eyebrow and shook his head. "Slash...."
"I guess some habits still die hard," Aerie sweatdropped.
***
Bill stood firmly before the monitor. He appeared the picture of rock hard
resolve. Inside he was shaking like lime jello. In one hand, a brightly
colored Bellsprout phone shook ever so slightly. "Sabrina?"
Onscreen, the dark woman was glowing with a menacing aura. Finally she spoke.
"I do this for you Bill. But if either of them so much as looks at me funny,
I'll do the world a favor without thinking twice. Understand?" Her words were
like ice.
Bill nodded. "Perfectly. Thank you, Sabrina, I knew I could depend on your
help."
Sabrina just closed her eyes curtly, and the call ended.
***
Bill entered the lab just as Seth was helping Aerie to her feet. "So sorry to
have kept you all waiting so long."
Aerie smiled and hugged onto Seth. "Oh, it was no trouble at all. So what did
Sabrina say?"
Bill's face lit up. "She's agreed to see you. She was a bit stubborn, but
just try to stay on her good side. Hopefully she can help resolve this
matter."
"Thank you....now all we have to do is keep from becoming beanie collectables,"
Seth gulped. He noticed Slasher eyeing some of Bill's equipment. The
blue-haired youth picked up Slasher and tossed the cat over his shoulder. "But
I think we'd better head out straight away before things get any worse."
"Purrr..." Slasher protested.
Bill waved to them on their way out. "Good luck! And if you have time, come
back sometime, I'd love to run some tests on the two of you!" Beside him,
Jolteon had fallen asleep in the doorway, having eaten his weight in Rare
Candies.
"We'll see..." Aerie smiled weakly. She knew Bill had only good intentions,
but she didn't like the idea of lab tests at all. Seth felt likewise. Enough
labs for them. But as they headed out, they shared a telepathic giggle.
The next morning, Bill's hair turned black under unknown causes. It was a few
weeks before the color washed out. Although Bill never related the two
incidents to each other, he discovered his pen ink had turned a shade of blue.
Until he bought a new a bottle, all his written papers and drawings smelled of
herbal essence.
