"Tsk, tsk," Doppler sighed. "So much of my knowledge at your disposal,
yet you do not understand the nature of love? Oh, brother..."
Silly Putty's fright eased off. "What are you talking about?"
"I would have Minax as my own, yes. But only on my own terms. Minax,
attractive as she is now, would need...an upgrade, were she to thrive in
my utopia. This is one of the things I contemplate, as time permits:
the nature of that upgrade, and how to best deliver it. I love her for
her abilities, and her ruthlessness, and her playing off the illusion of
most trainers that their slaves are their friends."
"It's you who doesn't understand love, Doppler. I love Famifax as she
is; I don't want to 'upgrade' her."
"Tch. You accept things as they are, and refuse to look for a better
path. I, on the other hand, seek to shape the world to suit what is
right. The world includes my heart."
"Like you have one. It's like the rest of you - a cheap imitation of
something else. Your gang's a wannabe Team Rocket, your philosophy's a
wannabe Mewtwo...we might both be dittos, but I at least stand by
myself."
"A cheap imitation...hmm...brother, thank you for your inspiration. I
believe I now know how to approach Minax. You, on the other hand...if
you seriously desire this Famifax to be your consort, this one you love
as most loves go, then why are you not taking the proven paths to woo
her right now?"
"For the same reason you're not wooing Minax right now."
"You mean this conversation itself? Do you really put that high an
emphasis on my love life over your own?"
"..." Silly Putty tried to track Doppler's chain of logic, but even
with his target's mind open, he could not see it.
"You should try to date Famifax. Minax and I, on the other hand...well,
I'm sure you can imagine that she would not enjoy a date in the usual
sense. But she will soon have a date...with destiny."
"..." He could sense *something* forming in Doppler's mind, but the
barriers were beginning to snap back into place.
"Yes, yes, your inspiration was most excellent. I really should go
prepare it immediately. Farewell!"
"Hey, WAIT!" But it was too late; Doppler was gone in a blink, leaving
the other ditto alone on the mountain's face. The clearest perception
Silly got took a few moments to resolve in his mind, but when they did,
his shock was perceptible. "'Minaxtwo'? He wouldn't...
"...
"...he would!"
TBC?
[Well, Doppler *was* affected...but pulling at the heartstrings of a
sociopath can have unexpected results. BTW, I think I know how I can
pull off Doppler's attempt at a 'Minaxtwo' without violating any rules.]
