Moon-crew as they headed to the League tournament, Kat decided to head to the Cinnibar gym and see if she could earn a Volcanobadge. She gathered up her Pokemon (this being no easy task since Fireball, Splash, Chu-chu, and Moonbeam were out of their Pokeballs and headed in the general direction of the gym. An hour later. "Guys, where are we?" Kat asked wearily. Much Pokemon chattering ensued. "You all are a lot of help.." She sat down on a rock. "Hi there," A voice called. Kat looked up to see a blond girl on a Ponyta trot up to her. "Ya look lost. Where ya headin?" "Nowhere, really," Kat replied. "Just trying to find the Cinnibar gym." "See that path?" The girl pointed. "It'll take ya to the gym." "But it leads to the volcano," Kat said, puzzled. "That's the point! But first.." The girl pulled a Pokeball off her belt and jumped to the ground." "Battle with me! If you can't beat me, after all, you got no chance 'gainst Blaine's Magmar." "Great, an opportunity to practice," Kat said, grinning. "Moonbeam, wanna give it a shot?" "Fairy!" Moonbeam hopped out in front of her trainer. "Okay! For my first Pokemon, I call Dragonair!" She tossed her Pokeball up into the air, and the graceful eel-like Pokemon popped out, appearing in front of Moonbeam."Dragonair, use your Wrap attack to squeeze the stuffing out of that little marshmallow!" Moonbeam was immedietly wrapped in dragon tail. "Moonbeam, use.. Um.." Kat thought for a second. "Pound!" The Clefairy's little fists were of little use, doing almost nothing to Dragonair's strong, sleek body. "Okay, Dragonair. Use Thunderwave to slow it down!" Dragonair released it's opponent and encased her in a ball of electricity, semi-paralyzing her. "Finish it off with your Hyper Beam!" "Moonbeam, Metronome!" Kat called desperatly, hoping Moonbeam thought of a good attack. The blast of fire from the Clefairy met the Hyper Beam head on, and exploded brilliantly, fainting both Pokemon, knocking the 2 trainers to the ground, spooking the girl's Ponyta, and sending Kat's spectators scrambling for cover. Kat stood up, brushing the dust off her clothes. "Whaddaya say we call it a draw?" She grinned. "Fine with me." Her opponent grinned back. She looked at Moonbeam and her Dragonair. "Chansey, come on out and heal these two." She opened up another Pokeball, and a Chansey popped out, beginning to nurse the 2 injured Pokemon. "That must be convienent," Kat said. "Hi. My name's Katrina, you can call me Kat." "Mariko, Mari's fine." The two shook hands. Later.. Kat slid down off of Ponyta's back, her Pokemon jumping down as well. "Thanks for the ride, Mari!" "No problem. I'll stick around and give ya a lift back to town, if ya like." "Okay, cool. Hopefully, I won't be too long," Kat said. She then took a moment to make sure all her Pokemon were present and accounted for, and entered the gym. "Hello?" She called, not seeing anyone around. "Welcome!" A voice boomed. Kat turned to see a man in sunglasses and a hilarious-looking hippie-ish wig. "I am Blaine." "And I know that. Jeez, take off that stupid wig already," Kat said, rolling her eyes. "Pardon?" Blaine looked stunned. "You know my mother, and you know me. Remember? Norma and her daughter?" "Oh! I remember now! My, my, my, little Kit-Kat's grown up!" Kat growled. "Do -not- call me that. I'm here to battle you, so can we hurry it up? It's hot in here." "Of course. This way," He said, leading her deeper into the volcano, onto a battle ring over a pit of lava. He proceeded to the other side. "Since you seem to be in such a hurry, a one Pokemon battle." "Splash, your turn, you do have the natural advantage." The Vaporeon trotted out into the ring. "Magmar!" Blaine called. The lava churned and flowed as Magmar rose out of it and jumped up onto the ring. Later: (Since I'm too durn lazy to write 2 battles for one post) "Thanks," Kat said, as she pinned the badge to the inside of her backpack. "You make sure to tell your mother hello for me, Kit-Kat." Kat muttered something little ears shouldn't hear and walked out of the gym. "How'd it go?" Mari asked, perched on her Ponyta's back. "Good. I won, and Splash didn't get seriously injured. She's in her Pokeball, though, to rest till we get to the Pokemon Center in town." Kat yawned. "It's getting late.. After we drop Splash off at the Center, how about you spend the night at my Mom's place? She won't mind us being around for a night." "Cool, thanks a bunch.
