"Capturing you was the only way I could think of to get it off you." Cliff gave him an odd look. The Pokeball had a hold on his mind until it was crushed. Its destruction made him a bit confused and paranoid. Could he still trust Smasher? Could he trust him not to brainwash him while he slept? "Wait," said Ema. "So Cliff isn't really yours?" "Nah," explained Smasher. "I really didn't have the heart to after he saved me from a rampaging Onix in Mt. Moon. I figured the least I could do was help him see the world, especially since I captured his friend." "His friend?" inquired Seth. "Zubat," replied Smasher. "Ah," concluded Seth. "If Cliff isn't yours," continued Ema, "Then why do you make him fight?" "I don't *make* him fight," argued Smasher, using the empasis where pointed out by the asterix. "Cliff defends me 'cause he's a friend and that's the way Pokemon do it. I'm sure you'd do the same for me. .... Well, maybe not *exactly* the same, but you get the point." At about that time, Shuriken materialized on top of Smasher's head. A Vulpix ran by, howling as if the baby Ditto attached to its ear was a half-crazed weasel. "OH NO!" exclaimed Smasher.
