Robert shook his head. "I don't know whether to laugh or groan. Well then,
Robert, would you happen to have any suggestions for a restaurant? You're the
one familiar with Saffron City..."
"Not THAT familiar," Mithril-rama shrugged. "But I do remember this place I
loved when I was little... I've always wished I could go there again."
"And how long will it take to find the destination this time?" smirked Robert as
they headed out the doors of the Pokémon Center.
"Not so fast!" Rilli pointed a finger into the air, then reached into her
purse. "I won't get lost so easily this time, (partly because I know my way
around Saffron City, I should hope,) but also because I have..."
"...Have..." Robert raised an eyebrow and waited.
"...Have..." Rilli rummaged through her purse as a small notebook, tissues, two
rubber bands, and a soggy cheese sandwich (which sailed over Robert's head and
went SPLAT) were flung through the air. "Ah ha! Because I have the PokéPedia!"
she exclaimed as she held up the mechanical device in triumph. "I can just look
up the directions on there!"
Robert blinked a few times and decided to worry about re-organizing the purse
later. "In that case, hurry up and enter the destination. My, that is, your
stomach isn't going to wait much longer." As if to emphasize that point,
Robert's stomach let out a protesting growl and he winced.
"Of course! All I have to do is enter the name of... the... restaurant..."
Rilli slowed down as she realized that that particular memory is lost to her.
"Well, uh, maybe we can run a search on all the restaurants in Saffron City?"
she laughed awkwardly.
Robert grimaced. "Well, it's your stomach..."
-----
"Here we are!" Rilli declared as they stopped in front of an old-looking
building. "See, that didn't take that much time!"
Robert eyed the sign over the door written in a spidery writing that he could
not decipher. "I dunno, is it a good sign when I can't read the name of the
restaurant?" He paused for a moment and groaned at his own unintentional pun.
"Trust me! This place is awesome!" Rilli grabbed Robert's hand and tugged him
into the building, where a woman garbed in full traditional Japanese clothing
bowed to them. "Welcome, honored customers. How many is in your party?"
"Two!" Rilli held up the appropriate number of fingers to demonstrate. "And uh,
could we have one of the 'special' seats please?"
"Of course," the kimonoed woman nodded and lead them to their table--or rather,
not quite a table. It was more like a small gondola-like boat, sitting in the
middle of a small "pond" (which is actually a hole in the ground, but of course
more elegant-looking). Rilli guided Robert into the seats on the two sides of
the boat, while the waitress laid down menus.
Robert gazed all around the restaurant, surprised to find that all of the
waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were dressed in ancient Japanese
wardrobes. What's more, the restaurant itself was decorated to give the
appearance of olden days. A few small birdcages hung from fake groves of
bamboo, and tiny birds warbled from within. They were surprisingly LOUD despite
their small size. Robert looked over the edge of the "boat" and was delighted
to find Farfetch'd's standing on rocks in the "pond". Or rather, two Farfetch'd
and a white Psyduck. "Those won't run away?" he asked Rilli, pointing to the
lounging ducks.
"Why would they want to?" Rilli chuckled. "It's nice and safe here, plus they
get all the food they could want." She broke a tiny piece of bread off the
small appetizer plate on the table and tossed it at the more colorful of the two
Farfetch'd. Before it could catch the crumb in its mouth, however, the Psyduck
paddled by and snatched it up.
Robert snickered, then focused his attention to the menu. "Wow, these sound
good--and expensive." He grimaced and tried to find what money he owned in his
pockets. "Robert, how much money do you have?"
"Never enough!" Rilli giggled. "Hey, you're treating me, so you should be using
your own money, Rilli!"
Robert stuck his tongue out at his girl--well, boy-- uh, friend. "Well, you
said I should treat you since I'm the man, so I guess I'm using the man's
money!"
Rilli sweatdropped. "But I don't have enough money! Now I remember why we
didn't come here as much as I wanted to--it's really expensive!"
Robert shrugged. "Well, I don't have that much either. I guess we'll have to
pool our resources again... if it makes you feel any better, Robert, I'll pay
for most of the bill!"
"Are you ready to place your order?" a different, though just as pretty,
waitress asked. The couple sweatdropped as they realized that they haven't yet
even studied the menus. Robert quickly scanned the menu for the cheapest thing
that he'd be willing to eat, while Rilli ordered the combination platter that
was her favorite.
Less than a minute after the waitress left, the items that were ordered suddenly
materialized with a flash on the table. Robert blinked. "What the..."
"This is Saffron City, after all!" Rilli explained. "They use psychic pokémon's
powers to deliver foods to the customers."
"How... classy," Robert mumbled as he sipped his tea. He quickly popped a piece
of sushi into his mouth and swallowed in record time. Suddenly, he made a face
and began coughing. "My throat... it feels scratchy..."
Rilli looked carefully at Robert's plate and gasped. "Rilli, there's egg in
this sushi! I'm allergic to the stuff! You better not touch any more of that
unless you want an itchy throat all night," she exclaimed through a mouthful of
her own sushi. She suddenly wrinkled her nose and grabbed a napkin to spit out
the offensive taste. "Ugh, that tasted nasty... but what's wrong? I used to
love this dish!"
Robert took a large gulp of tea and poked at Rilli's food. "Looks fine,
except--eww, what's that, avocado? I hate the stuff... guess it's how I taste
it, not how I perceive it."
Rilli frowned with a puzzled look on her face. "Then how are we supposed to
eat? I'm hungry and I can't stomach half of my dinner!"
Robert thought for a moment, then steeled himself as he took a piece of the
avocadoed sushi from Rilli's plate and tasted it. "Hmm, not as bad as it used
to be..." He reached across the table and switched their plates around.
"There, it should be okay now."
Rilli eyed the food in front of her wearily, but finally decided to give it a
try after pouring herself lots of tea. Robert watched as she chewed... and
swallowed... and smiled with relief. "Hey, I can eat this!" She sweatdropped
as she looked up to see Robert already wolfing down his dinner. "Do I look like
that when I eat?"
"Munno, n'er sheen you eaf mmushi 'fore." Robert shrugged and continued to
satisfy his stomach's needs. Rilli shrugged and chowed down as well.
-----
"Wow, a full meal really makes you tired..." Robert sighed as the two staggered
back to the Pokémon Center, where they checked in for their room. "Not to
mention big events. Not to mention big events being interrupted by Team Rocket
and whatnot."
"I just need to get out of these shoes..." Rilli moaned as she limped through
the door and collapsed on a chair. "My back hurts from these heels..."
"What heels? They're flatter than a deflated Jigglypuff that's been run over by
a herd of Kangaskhan!" Robert replied as he pulled off his own shoes and socks.
"Okay, maybe not THAT flat... Robert? Robert?" He sighed to see the girl
already conked out on the bed. Deciding it was too much trouble to ask her
where she kept her, well, his, night clothes, Robert sprawled onto the other
half of the bed and fell asleep as well.
