From: StellarPoke <stellarPoke@stellar.com> Subject: [PW!] Jigglypuffs Do Float Date: Sunday, December 05, 1999 8:45 PM Well, after dad dealt with those pokémon hunters, I went outside to train Kishra and Mishra. I know Misty is strong, but I knew I'd beat her. I just had to make sure my pokémon were ready for battle. I opened the only two pokéballs I had containing my Jigglypuff and Clefairy. They looked like they were ready and waiting. "Ok guys, I know you're really ready to take on Misty, but just to be sure, let's get some training in before the battle." Of course, they were both ready for anything. That's what I had grown to love about my two pokémon. We were always there for each other. No matter what, we were best friends. And that's the way it should be. That's the bond a trainer should have with his pokémon right? Of course it is. "Puff," Kishra said proudly was she stared down Mishra. Mishra in turn, got herself in her fighting pose, ready to battle her friend. Sparing against themselves was tough because I trained them to work together, but they knew that this was only training. It meant nothing against friendship. "Ok, Kishra, use your slap attack. Mishra, you know it's coming, make sure you counter." That must have been the one disadvantage. They knew it was coming. But knowing is only half of it, you had to be fast enough to evade, or hopefully counter back. Mishra was fast enough and grabbed Kishra's arm as she threw her first punch. In an instant, Kishra was lying helplessly on the ground with Mishra on top. "Fairy!" she cried triumphantly. I laughed because she had no idea what was about to happen. Kishra curled herself into a ball and started rolling. Mishra fell off hitting the ground hard. Kishra popped out of her ball and pounded Mishra hard on the head. She didn't expect that one, and being shaken up from her fall, she got knocked out good. I ran out to her. "Oh dear. You poor thing. You gotta be careful. Battles aren't won in just one hit you know. Never let your guard down or this will happen again." Mishra stared at me. I knew she understood. I recalled them both to their pokéballs and took them to the pokécenter for healing. I figured that was enough training, they'd be ready to take on Misty now. "Good afternoon Stellar," Nurse Joy said cheerfully. She was always in a good mood. Must be the Chanseys. Those things will put a smile on any face. I handed her my pokéballs and sat on the bench to wait. "They won't be too long. Are you going to battle Misty today?" "Yes. How'd ya know?" "Hmm, kinda figured you would some day. Looks like you've been training. How's the family?" "They're fine. My dad chased off some hunters today. They were shooting helpless Pidgeys." "That's awful. Some people can be so insensitive." The light blinked indicating my pokémon were recovered. "Looks like they are ready. Good luck Stellar. I want to see a Cascade Badge on that vest next time you come in." "Heh heh. Don't worry Joy, I won't let ya down." I took the pokéballs and attached them to my belt. I'd win. Kishra and Mishra don't know how to lose, 'cept against each other. But that's different. We could beat Misty. I was sure of it. I headed out of the pokécenter towards the gym. I really loved living in Cerulean City. It was such a nice place. Lots of flowers, and trees, and lakes, and fountains. Ah, I could go on and on. When I was little, my parents would take me to see the water shows at the gym. My favorite was the one where Misty played the mermaid. It was so realistic. But that didn't mean I'd go easy on her. "Hello young man, may I help you," the lady at the reception desk asked. "Yes. I'd like to battle Misty for her Cascade Badge please." "Aw, such a polite young boy, right this way." Hehe, I think she liked me. Huh, whoops, eheh, now's not the time for that. I followed her into the main gym room where Misty was about to nail Psyduck good. "Misty, this young man would like to battle you for the Cascade Badge." "Can't you see I'm busy!" Misty sure had a short temper. I almost felt sorry for that Psyduck. Maybe that's why he continues to have headaches. The receptionist half smiled and left the gym room. I walked up to Misty. "I'd like to challenge you please." "Oh, you're very polite for a little boy." [I've always wanted to call someone little], she thought to herself. I let the insult slide and went to the trainer's box. "Ok then. This will be a two on two battle. Are you ready?" "Of course. For my starting pokémon, I choose Mishra!" My Clefairy popped out of the pokéball and onto the floating platform. Suddenly, she felt a little off balance but recovered quickly. "Don't be afraid Mishra. You won't fall, just be careful." Misty sent out her first pokémon, a Staryu. "Ok Staryu, water gun attack." "Mishra, evade it and count attack with double slap." Mishra sidestepped and amazingly flew herself over to Staryu's platform and slapped the heck out of it. "Good job Mishra! Now, finish up with a pound attack." Mishra pounded Staryu in the center. A very well aimed hit, Staryu immediately fainted and Misty called upon her Starmie. "Hm, that was just luck. Starmie, bubblebeam that thing into the pool." Mishra was stranded and had nowhere to hide. Starmie easily shot her off the platform. Poor Mishra couldn't swim so I recalled her before she drowned. I readied Kishra's pokéball. It's not over yet. Everyone loses at least one round here and there. "Ok Kishra, disable Starmie." Kishra was such a cute pokémon. But she was also pretty strong and she disabled Staymie's long range attacks. "Drat. Dive under Starmie. We'll attack from underwater." This was too perfect. Mishra may not have known how to swim, but Kishra did, a little. "Follow her Kishra, you know what to do." Kishra smiled fiendishly. She really knew how to go from cute to devil in record time. She exhaled to the point of being almost paper thin, dove into the water and attempted to follow Starmie down. I just waited for her to surface victoriously. While underwater, Kishra began singing. Starmie couldn't resist the song and began falling asleep. She and Kishra both floated back to the surface. Kishra floated about while Starmie slept happily on the surface. I could see the anger on Misty's face as she recalled her sleeping Starmie. Kishra floated her way back to me and jumped happily into my arms. "Awesome work Kishra! Way to go!" "Well, you won. Here's the Cascade Badge. Um, what's your name again?" "Stellar. Stellar Moonbeam. Thank you Misty." I attached the badge to my vest and ran off cradling Kishra in my arms. She was so adorable like that. You'd never know how evil she could get. I took them both to the pokécenter. "Hey Stellar." I boastfully showed off the badge pinned to my vest. "Great work," Joy said taking Kishra and Mishra. They went back to be healed from the battle. "You are going to be a great trainer some day aren't you." "Yes! I'm gonna be on TV some day just like those trainers there." I pointed to the TV which was currently showing a match. A Chansey brought back out my two pokémon and I placed them back inside their pokéballs. I was so proud of them. They fought well today. I decided to go back home and show my parents my accomplishment. They would be proud too. As I left the pokécenter, I couldn't help but walk out slow enough for all the younger kids to check out the badge. Hey, victory is sweet, and I wanted to savor every moment of my first gym battle victory.
