Mari screamed, turning the heads of the few people on the stretch of beach. She stripped down to her bra and underpants in less then a minute and dropped her glasses on the pile of clothes. She picked up 5 of her Pokeballs. "Vileplume, Dragonair, Lapras, Butterfree, Chansey! Come out and have some fun!" She ran down to the water and dived in, Lapras and Dragonair right behind her. Chansey made itself content digging a hole in the sand, and Vileplume splashed around in the surf at the very edge of the water. Ponyta wisely kept it's distance. "C'mon in, Kat! The water's nice!" She yelled, floating on her back. Kat sweatdropped. "I don't have a swimsuit!" She yelled back. "So? Who cares?" Was the reply. Kat shrugged and stripped down as well, throwing her clothes in the pile with Mari's. She picked up her 2 occupied Pokeballs. "Rocky, Flapper! You guys can get some sun too." Splash was already in the water, Chu-chu playing with Vileplume at the edge, Moonbeam floating like a cork, Flapper found itself a shade tree at the edge of the beach to perch in, and Vulpix sitting back with Ponyta, curled up next to Chansey, who was annoyed that Rocky had chosen her hole in the sand for his nap spot. Kat laughed at the Pokemon for a moment, and then crossed her arms over her chest self-consiously and walked down into the surf. Later: Kat shivered. "It's starting to get cold out.." Mari nodded. "Let's go back to the Pokemon center for the night.. It's too chilly out here." "Okay, but I want to go home first and get some stuff. I need to start heading for Rosetta town to meet up with some friends." The 2 gathered their Pokemon, as to not have a huge crowd walking through Cinnibar's suburban housing area, and headed for Kat's house. When they arrived, Kat was somewhat surprised to find that the door was ajar. Mom's never this careless, she thought. She walked into the living room. She screamed, falling to her knees and sobbing. Mari went wide-eyed at the sight. She'd never seen a real dead body before. She knelt down and hugged Kat, who was still sobbing. "I'm going to call the police." "No you're not." A voice said from behind them. Mari whirled around to face a woman in a Team Rocket uniform, holding a very sharp, bloody knife. Kat stood to face her. "You! Are you EVER going to go away! WHAT grudge do you hold against my family!" She screamed. "Dear, didn't we go there once already? I thought I killed you last time.. I suppose now I'll have to finish the job, won't I?" "Over my dead body!" Mari exclaimed. "Blondie, that can be arranged. Step aside," The woman snarled. "Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, calls me blondie." Mari ran forward, taking a seemingly wild swipe at the side of the woman's head with her long nails and missing, and at the same moment kneeing her in the stomach, HARD. "Never, ever, underestimate me," Mari growled, knocking her unconcious with an elbow to the back of the head. "Kat, go call the police. They can take care of this trash." Soon came the screaming of sirens and the visit from Officer Jenny and her crew. The questioning. Everything that goes with a murder investigation. When all that was over, Kat sighed. "Mari.. I've got to get out of this house.. Let me get what I came for and then let's go. Not to the Pokemon center, to Rosetta. The farther I can get from here, the better. With the travel time, we won't have to wait long there for my friends.. As far as I know the league's tournament's still going on." Mari looked startled for a moment. "You want me to go with you?" "Yeah." Kat nodded. "I need someone with me." "Okay then.. I suppose I'll go." On the midnight ferry to Pallet: Kat leaned over the deck rail, her tears dripping into the icy water of the ocean. She felt an arm around her shoulders and jerked her head up, only to see Mari standing beside her. Kat stood up and leaned into her friend, embracing her tightly, sobbing into her shoulder. "Mari.. Mom was all I had left.. Dad's been dead for years.. Got no other family.. I don't know what I'm gonna do now.." Mari replied, "I know how ya feel, thinkin' ya got nothin'.. I lot both my parents in a car accident when I was about 7 or 8.. Hurt like nothin' else in the world. But if ya want, I'll be your family.." She smiled. "I'm not much, but I'm good at listenin'."
