Outside his cabin, Gads looked over at his latest trainee. "Come'on.
You were SAD back on the Water Field. You coulda won the thing, but
you were a big let-down instead. What did I tell you about screwing
around?"
"Zee..." Dow looked up from his push-ups to glare at his trainer for
a moment.
Mara, who had brought out Cheddar and Swiss for some training of their
own, looked over at the scene. "Aw, come on Gads. Aren't ya being a
little harsh on him?"
Gads shook his head. "No. Not after that scene yesterday. It might
have been harsh a month ago, but it's obvious that Dow needs a little
training."
Andrew, meenwhile, was having some problems of his own. "Gads?"
"Yeah Andrew?"
"HOW CAN YOU STAND TRAINING A MANKEY!" On top of a beaten, brused
Andrew, Monk-chan-2 sat, snickering. From the sidelines, Monk-chan
nodded in approval of his pupil.
This didn't get past Gads. "I don't think it's your Mankey's fault...
more like mine." Just then, a light went off in Gads head. "I GOT IT!"
Mara and Andrew both looked up. "What is it?"
"Mara, Andrew, can I borrow Monk-chan-2 and Swirly?"
"Sure." "Eh, why not..." Mara headed over with Swirly's Pokeball,
and Andrew walked over, Monk-chan-2 in tow.
Gads looked over at Dow, who was still doing his push-ups. "You can
stop now, Dow..."
"ZEE!" Dow got up, looking thankful for the freedom...
"... and you can start fighting M-C-2."
Dow's face fell. "D'ow..."
"Andrew, remember, Mankey's LOVE to fight. The only way to seriously
train them is to have them fight. Since you're not a black-belt, it's
probably better to use Pokemon, rather than yourself."
Andrew rubbed his sore back. "You got that right..."
"All right. Take this like a normal battle. And make sure that ya go
all out. Monk-chan-2 won't learn nothin' if he doesn't, and I don't
think that anything short of a mud-hole stomping will teach Dow a
lesson."
Andrew nodded, then looked over at Monk-chan-2. "MC2, KARATE CHOP!"
Dow blanched. "DROW!!"
Gads shook his head. "You're a psychic, remember? Confusion!"
"Drow..." Dow began to build the power for the confusion attack, but
was assaulted by a vicious chop. Moving out of the way in time, Dow
nevertheless loss his concentration.
"MC2! SCRATCH!"
"DOW! HYPNOSIS!"'
This time, Dow went straight for his attack, and blased the Mankey
with waves of Hypnotic waves just before it scratched him a new one.
Dow got a twinkle in his eye...
"NOW, MEGA PUNCH!"
However, instead, Dow decided to make the Mankey dance a little Irish
Jig. Andrew groaned, Mara tried to stifle a giggle, and Gads began to
glow a light blue. "Mara... send out Whirly."
"WHAT? Whirly's too strong! He'll beat Dow senseless..."
"...unless Dow stops screwing around. Exactly. He either takes it
seriously, or get clobbered." Gads smiled viciously as Dow continued to
concentrate on recreating Riverdance using a Mankey.
"...ok. I hope you know what you're doing..."
Andrew looked at Mara. "What's going on. The last time I saw Gads
THIS vicious was when he was busy trying to destroy Brock's Vulpix, and
even then, his temperment had the help of a nanite crystal..."
Mara shook her head. "Gads did this with Monk-chan too. When the
Mankey wouldn't listen, or ignore it's training, he'd have it fight his
father's Hitmonlee. It didn't take long for Monk-chan to learn his
lessons. I'm not sure Dow's tough enough in spirit to survive this kind
of training, however..." Despite her best instinct, Mara sent out the
Polywhirl.
"WHIRL!" Whirly flexed one rubbery arm, then looked at Mara.
"Whirl..."
"Whirly... BODY SLAM THAT DROWZEE!"
"Pol!" Before Dow could even notice that he had a new opponent,
Whirly slammed it's large bulk into it. Dow was sent flying.
"DOW! CONFUSION!" As the Drowzee crash-landed, it quickly got up,
and began to build psychic power...
"WHIRLY, SURF'S UP!" Likewise, Whirly began to build a wave of water.
"ZEE!" "POL!" Both finished at the same time. As a wall of water
smashed into Dow, Whirly was sent flying into a wall by the power of
Dow's Confusion attack. However, as Dow was downed by the attack,
Whirly was barely fazed.
"POLYWHIRL!" Whirly began to charge up for another Surf... when Gads
began to signal to Mara to end the battle.
"WHIRLY STOP! DOW'S HAD ENOUGH!" Mara began crying out to Whirly,
but it didn't listen, instead continuing to build another Surf.
"WHIRLY, STOP! IT'S OVER!" Whirly still built the Surf. This one was
even bigger then the first.
Gads, on a hunch, pulled out his Pokedex, and pointed it at the
Polywhirl. "Whirly, a Polywhirl. Trainer Number 12249..."
Gads nodded. "Thats's Mom's number..."
"Approximate Level: 94"
"SWEET MOTHER OF MANKEY!" Gads nearly dropped his Pokedex. "MARA!
RECALL WHIRLY! HE'S TOO POWEFUL FOR YOU TO CONTROL!"
Mara pulled out Whirly's Pokeball. "WHIRLY, RETURN!" The Polywhirl
just moved to one side. "RETURN!" Once again, the Polywhirl dodged,
still building it's wave.
"Zee..." Dow got up, woozy from the Surf that hit him earlier. It the
looked over at the wall of water that the Polywhirl was building.
"DROWZEE!" He froze up in terror.
"DOW! GET OUT OF THERE!"
"D...row...zee..." Dow couldn't move. He was too afraid.
"Whirl..." Whirly prepared to send out it's wave...
"D... d... DROWZEE!" Suddenly, Dow unleashed it's Hypnosis attack.
"POLYWRATH!" Whirly shot out the wave just before the waves of sleep
hit it, and Whirly went out. As the wave raced towards Dow, without
Whirly controlling it, it began to shrink. By the time it had reached
the Drowzee, it was gone.
"ZEE!" Dow, without even being told, began to execute the infamous
Dream Eater attack. "Zee... zee... ZEE!" As Whirly began to toss,
turn, and flinch in his sleep, Dow enjoyed a light snack of dreams.
Whirly snapped up, it's dreams destroyed.
"NOW DOW! CONFUSION!"
"D'OW!" Dow nodded, then sent out a large wave of Psychic energy,
smashing into the Polywhirl. Confused, Whirly Body-Slammed a large
rock. The rock was destroyed, but Whirly was knocked cold.
"NOW! WHIRLY, RETURN!" This time, without Whirly able to dodge, Mara
recalled the Polywhirl.
Gads looked at the Drowzee. While it looked like it had seen hell and
back, it had won the fight. Gads looked for a moment, then smiled. "I
KNEW you had it in you, Dow!"
"Zee? D'ow..." Dow gave his trainer a thumbs up, then slumped down,
dead tired.
Gads looked at Mara, who was just looked at Whirly's Pokeball. "I...
don't understand. He never was that bad about obeying..."
"Mara... maybe you should work on training someone other than
Whirly..."
Mara nodded. "Yeah. But all I have is Cheddar and Swiss."
Gads thought for a moment. "Hey, whatever happened to MaChop?"
"MaChop? That weenie? He couldn't do anything. He's at home,
playing housesitter."
"Weenie? A MaChop?" Andrew raised an eyebrow.
"I tried, but he couldn't even keep up with Monk-chan..."
It was Gads turn to raise an eyebrow. "Maybe it's because while I was
training Monk-chan, you only trained yourself. So, even though you had
MaChop longer then I had Monk-chan, Monk-chan was able to beat it. Now,
if you decided to train him..."
Mara got the message. "Maybe I'll pick up MaChop next time we go
through Saffron."
"Good idea." Gads looked over at Andrew. "Now... about training
Mankeys..."
