"Hello, and welcome to Round Three of the 1999 Pokémon League Games! I'm Bill
Rosworth..."
"...and I'm John Centern. Well, folks, this match promises to be the most
exciting yet for today's combatants. Today matches Andrew O'Reilly, who seems
so far to be untouchable, against up-and-coming trainer Joanne Rosenbaum."
A viewscreen came down in the pressbox. Flashy graphics revealed this to be a
review of Andrew's two recent battles. "In the first battle, on the ice field
against Joey Cromber, things looked down for Joey from the start. Andrew then,
in two moves, performed with only himself and his Pokémon what it took Ash
himself, his opponent and some luck to do."
"While the first battle was rather serious, the second battle ended in a . . .
less than digified manner. In separate interviews with Andrew and his second
opponent, Zagro, we've found out exactly what happened."
Zagro: "Well, I hate to admit it, but Puffers (my Jigglypuff) is vain. I mean
_vain._ I simply told Puffers that the Kadabra belonged to the boy in the
Jigglypuff shirt, and she went off on her own."
Andrew: "Eventually, I figured out from Zagro's pointing at me and David (my
Kadabra) followed by the absolute MUNTING of David that the shirt was what
caused all this. So, I figure, I'll send the Pokémon that could fare the best,
have him hold on for long enough, then distract the Jigglypuff, then get her to
leave the ring (D-Qing her and losing the match) and beat me up. Unfair?
Sure. Foolish? Hell yeah. But it was that or someone else would be seriously
hurt."
Graphics appeared on the viewscreen to announce Joanne's review. "The first
match was absolutely AMAZING! Something like that will NEVER be seen again in
the history of the Pokémon League! It was STUPENDOUS! It was..."
Someone motioned for Bill and John to go offstage. A flash appeared, and John
and Bill sat back down. "Uh...due to...uh...unforseen technical difficulties,
the first battle will not be reviewed today.[1]"
"The second round, however..." John paused, then continued, realizing nobody
called him that time. "...was interesting. She lost, unfortunately, but she
did rather forcefully send her opponent's Raticate 35 feet into the air."
**Suddenly, within the arena...**
"1993" by LizardKing [2] played over the loudspeakers as Andrew O'Reilly
entered the Grass Field, looking for all the world as cool as a cucumber. For
the most part, he was, as few others had won both of their first battles,
putting him ahead of his opponents. He was understandably a little nervous, of
course, but he hid this well. He waved to the crowd, who responded with a
cheer.
"1993" faded out and "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65 started playing as
Andrew's opponent, Joanne Rosenbaum, entered. She was understandably a bit
more nervous as she hadn't won yet and wanted a chance to claim a win.
"Blue" faded out as both trainers climbed the ladders to their platforms,
Andrew on the Green and Joanne on the Red. The referee waited until both
trainers signaled they were ready, then raised both flags to begin the match.

*******************************************
"Goldeen, I choose you!" Joanne sends her first Pokémon into the field.
'You can do it, I know I can count on you...' Andrew whispers to his first
Pokémon. "Go, Snicker!"
"Goldeen..."
"Pi...ka..."
The two opponents sized each other up before Joanne gave the first attack.
"Tail Whip!"
Simultaneously, Andrew called out, "Snicker! Thundershock!"
Snicker charged up while Goldeen, who was surprisingly good at holding its own
on land, bounded toward Snicker. Snicker released the energy just as Goldeen
leapt for the Whip. The Thundershock hit first, but Goldeen still managed to
distract Snicker enough to concentrate and release a Supersonic.
"Oh no...Snicker! Quick Attack, before that hits you!"
Unfortunately, Snicker wasn't fast enough. As the Supersonic hit, Snicker saw
a quick flash of light, then Goldeen seemed to be gone. <> Snicker wondered. He looked all around. Then he saw it...digging a
hole? <> He took a super-fast
running start and Quick Attacked...
...the ground. <> He shook it
off. <> Snicker looked around. <> Snicker flew 10 feet in the air, then landed hard, the victim of
a vicious Peck. Fortunately, that snapped him out of it. <> Snicker lined up for another Quick Attack
at what looked like Goldeen...
...and tripped over the real Goldeen, falling flat on his face. (OOC: I guess
the Peck _didn't_ snap him out of it. Oh well. This one did. Honest.)
<> Snicker was pissed. He
readied himself for one final Thundershock...and connected. <>
The referee raised the green flag. "Goldeen is unable to fight!"
"Wow! That was quite a fight, and that was just the first!" Bill reflected.
"One thing that Goldeen learned, you should never get a Pikachu too mad. Now,
what will Joanne send out?"
"I choose you...Ivysaur!" Joanne sent out Ivysaur with a flash.
"Poisonpowder!"
"Ivy!"
The Ivysaur let out the small cloud of toxic power straight at Snicker...who
unfortunately was still celebrating. <>
Snicker turned around to see the Pokémon responsible for the attack. <> Snicker took another running start and Quick Attacked
Ivysaur, who went tumbling quite a bit. <> The Poisonpowder took effect, weakening Snicker slightly.
The referee raised the red flag. "Pikachu is unable to fight!"
Ivysaur then righted itself with its whips, Vine Whipping Snicker into absolute
submission in the process. "Damn...Blaze, go! Ember!"
"Grrrr....LITHE!" Blaze sent embers towards Ivysaur, burning it and the grass
around it in the process. Ivysaur responded with another Vine Whip, tumbling
Blaze around before lifting it in the air and letting go in midair, whipping it
as it lets go then grabbing it again and slamming it...HARD. Ivysaur lifted
Blaze for another Vine Whip, when he Bit the vines. In pain, Ivysaur released
Blaze, who landed on it and Bit its bloom. After a while, Ivysaur got Blaze
off and released some more Poisonpowder. Blaze released another Ember toward
Ivysaur, and both attacks hit. Unfortunately, Blaze's attack was too strong
for Ivysaur.
The referee raised the green flag. "Ivysaur is unable to fight!"
"Ivysaur, Return! I choose you...Dragonair!"
Dragonair appeared suddenly, and Thunderwaves as soon as it left the ball.
Blaze didn't seem to be too affected as he Bit the pearls on the end of
Dragonair's tail. Dragonair went into Agility, and Blaze couldn't figure out
where Dragonair was. It Embered all around in desperation, and only barely hit
Dragonair with anything. Dragonair approached for the wrap, and Blaze went to
Bite again.
Unfortunately, Thunderwave chose that time to take effect, and Blaze did
nothing as Dragonair wrapped him into submission.
The referee raised the red flag. "Growlithe is unable to fight!"
'You're my last hope here...' "Yűgi, go!"
The Bulbasaur appeared suddenly and Vine Whipped Dragonair with some
difficulty. He only got one Vine Whip off, however, before Dragonair Slammed
him hard. Yűgi then let loose a Leech Seed as he Tackled Dragonair. The Leech
Seed healed him a little, but Dragonair Thunderwaved him, paralyzing him.
Dragonair moved in for the finishing Wrap, when Yűgi managed to eke out one
last Vine Whip.
After a few seconds, the referee raised the green flag. "Dragonair is unable
to fight! Andrew is the winner!"
"Wow, Bill, that was an amazing seesaw battle! I'm surprised that that
Bulbasaur managed that last Vine Whip!"
"Yes, and that Pikachu was very determined!"
"This ends this battle of the Third Round of the 1999 Pokémon League Games.
This is John Centern..."
"...and this is Bill Rosworth. Good night."
**After the fight...**
A lone redheaded groundskeeper stood with a bag of seed, looking at the
barely-smoldering spot where Blaze defeated Ivysaur. "Ay..." he said. "I hate
it when the laddies use Fire Types..."
(OOC: Sorry it fell flat toward the end, but with Christmas, I've been putting
stuff off...)
[1] TR Neuralyzers, gotta love 'em...
[2] The song's available on AOL's Filesearch. It's a pretty cheerful song, if
it's the one I'm thinking of. I dunno if it's available otherwise.
