"And now, entering the stadium for the next battle on the Water field,
for the 7-8 badge division, is trainer Dan of Pallet Town!"
The stadium erupted with cheers.
"And his opponent, Melissa of Cerulean City!"
A blue-haired girl walked out to the platform. She wore a light blue
shirt and a pair of dark blue, almost black, pants.
"She sure likes the color blue," Dan muttered.
The rest of the people in the stadium, the ones that didn't cheer for
Dan, cheered.
"Each of them, as before, will use three pokemon each. Let the battle
begin!"

Round One
Battle on the Water Field!
-----------------
"Staryu, go!" Melissa said, tossing out a pokeball.
"Go get 'em, Pikachu!" Dan shouted.
"It looks like Dan is using a Pikachu! That gives him a big advantage
over the opponent's Staryu!"
Dan's fans cheered and waved signs for him.
"All right, Pikachu," Dan said. "Thundershock, now!"
Pikachu let loose the electric blast, leaving Staryu in bad shape.
"Melissa's Staryu isn't looking too good, but it's still battle-ready!
It seems that Staryu is stronger than it looks!"
"Hang in there, Staryu!" Melissa said. "Hit him back with an Ice Beam!"
Staryu fired a blue beam at Pikachu, knocking him back, but not
freezing him.
"Pikachu! Don't fall into the pool!" Dan knew that if Pikachu fell in,
his present temperature would freeze the water around him, and trap him in an
ice block.
"Now Tackle!" Melissa shouted.
Staryu flew at Dan's Pikachu, knocking him into the water.
"Oh no!" Dan said. "Pikachu doesn't have much time left!"
"Finish him off!" Melissa said, and Staryu dived into the water.
"Pikachu! Hurry and use a Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu, already beginning to freeze, called up his last bit of
strength to overcome the cold.
"Pika-CHUUUUUUUUUUU!" He released the Thunderbolt.
The whole pool was filled with electricity, and everything in it was
zapped, including Staryu.
Staryu popped up on the surface, its core jewel no longer glowing.
"Staryu, return!"
Pikachu jumped up out of the water, and onto one of the floating
platforms. Using the electricity had warmed him up, and he was no longer
freezing.
"Staryu is out of the match, and Pikachu is still strong, despite that
close call back there! Now which Pokemon will Melissa choose next?"
Melissa pulled out another Pokeball and threw it onto the floating
platform. "Gloom, go!"
"Melissa's next Pokemon is Gloom, while Dan's Pikachu will stay in the
match."
"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Dan said.
Pikachu unleashed the electricity at Gloom...but Gloom seemed mostly
unfazed!
"It looks like one fact was overlooked here, that Grass types are
mostly resistant to Electrics! That could cost Dan quite a bit for this match!"
"Hahaha," Melissa laughed. "Gloom, use your Petal Dance attack!"
Gloom began dancing, and flower petals flew around the stadium. Pikachu
was badly hurt by the petals that hit him.
"I never knew flower petals were that powerful as weapons," Dan said.
"I'll have to remember that..."
"Pikachu, Swift attack!"
Pikachu picked himself up, and fired many little stars from his cheeks.
No matter how many times Gloom tried to dodge, the stars always hit.
"And Pikachu comes back with Swift, the undodgable attack! This may not
be the end for Pikachu after all!"
"Gloom, charge up a Solarbeam, now!"
Gloom's petals glowed bright yellow as they collected energy from the
sun.
"Pikachu, this is our chance!" Dan said. "Use Quick Attack!"
Pikachu was a blur as he flew out and hit Gloom, who staggered back
while still collecting energy.
"Do it again!" Dan said.
A big yellow blur surrounded Gloom as Pikachu repeatedly hit him. It
was now that Gloom decided to release the Solarbeam.
"Pikachu, dodge it!" Dan shouted as the beam left Gloom's petals.
Pikachu quickly moved out of the way of the beam's full force, but he
was still grazed by it, and was thrown back.
"Pikachu!" Dan shouted. "If you can, try a Thunder attack!"
Pikachu slowly stood up and faced Gloom.
"Amazing! Even after all that, Pikachu still has the strength to
battle!" the announcer said.
"Pika," Pikachu said, leaping into the air. "Pika, pika,
pika-CHUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!"
Gloom stood there with widened eyes as it was hit by the most powerful
electric attack any Pokemon could have. Even so, Gloom still wasn't out.
"Gloom, use Petal Dance again!" Gloom just stood there. "What are you
waiting for?"
"It looks like the Thunder attack left Gloom paralyzed!" the announcer
said. "This isn't looking good for Melissa."
"Pikachu, finish it with a Quick Attack!"
A yellow streak headed for Gloom...hit...and headed back to the
platform. Gloom fell over.
"And Gloom is out of the match!"
"Gloom, return!" Melissa said, glaring at Dan and Pikachu. "Go,
Butterfree!"
"Melissa's final Pokemon is Butterfree! Will it be able to defeat Dan's
Pokemon?"
"Butterfree, Psybeam!"
Butterfree released a powerful beam of psychic energy at Pikachu. Pika
fell over, unable to go any further.
"And so, Pikachu ends its spectacular show here! Dan has two Pokemon
left; which will he choose?"
"Go, Pidgeot!" Dan shouted. "Wing Attack!"
Pidgeot flew toward Butterfree, ready to strike with its wing.
"Butterfree, Whirlwind!"
Pidgeot's flight was stopped, and then he was thrown back to the
platform.
"Now use Psybeam!"
The psychic energy beam hit Pidgeot full force, and he became confused.
"This is amazing! Butterfree is putting on a great show, and may well
win this match!"
"Sleep Powder!"
Butterfree sprinkled the glittering powder onto Pidgeot, and he fell
asleep.
Dan gasped. "That thing seems as powerful as Ash Ketchum's Pikachu..."
Butterfree slammed itself into Pidgeot, finishing him off.
"Pidgeot is unable to battle!"
"This is incredible! Melissa's Butterfree has just finished off two of
Dan's pokemon, leaving them at one left each!"
"Clefairy, I'm counting on you," Dan said. "Don't let me down."
Clefairy leaped from Dan's platform to the pool's floating platform.
"Ahahahaha!" Melissa laughed. "A little Clefairy?! Hahaha!..."
Dan and Clefairy's faces turned red with anger, and Clefairy put up his
fists.
"Clefairy, Mega Punch!"
Clefairy leaped into the air towards Butterfree, and landed a good
punch in its face.
"What?" Melissa said. "Butterfree, use Whirlwind!"
Butterfree started flapping its wings, producing great gusts of wind.
Clefairy dived into the water to avoid the attack.
"Huh? Where'd it go?" Melissa said, searching the water for Clefairy.
Clefairy soon made himself known, as he jumped out of the water behind
Butterfree and punched it again. Butterfree dropped to a platform below.
"Butterfree, Psybeam!"
The psychic energy struck Clefairy, causing him to become confused, and
he began slapping himself.
"Clefairy! Try to shake it off and Sing!"
Clefairy shook his head and cleared the confusion. He began to sing a
soothing song of sleep to Butterfree, who fell asleep soon after hearing it.
"Clefairy has put Butterfree to sleep! It looks like the match is all
Dan's!"
"Clefairy, Metronome!"
Clefairy swung his fingers back and forth, then started glowing red. He
let loose a stream of flames at the sleeping Butterfree, finishing him off!
"Butterfree is out! Dan is the winner!"
"Incredible! After having two powerful Pokemon knocked out by
Butterfree, Dan and Clefairy struck back to win this spectacular battle!"
-
"You did great out there, Clefairy," Dan said, exiting the stadium.
"Who would have thought that you'd win against that Butterfree? It knocked out
two of my best Pokemon...it must have been trained well..."
"Fairy," Clefairy said.
"...What do you say we get something to eat? That battle made me
hungry."
"Clefairy!" Clefairy said.
Dan and Clefairy walked to a nearby restaurant, and waited for news on
the next round.
