Nobody cheered louder, however, than Andrew's parents in the front row. "And on the Red Platform, hailing from...uh...hail --" *click* "Uh, Joe, I can't read this, where does it say he's from?" "Uh, Tom?" "Huh?" "The microphone's still on." "Oops...um...Joey, Ladies and Gentlemen!" A silent wind blew through the stadium. A few crickets chirped. A spectator's loose Tangela blew across the arena. (OOC: Eh, nobody cares about NPCs...) ********** Round One: Ice to Meet You! (In stereo, where available) ********** "Rattata, I choose you!" 'Rattata's easy enough to deal with, and I might as well try him out now...' "Go, Mankey!" <Again, commands more or less snipped for brevity> Rattata and Mankey stared each other down. It was up to the trainers to make the first move. That move was Andrew's. "Mankey, Karate Chop!" Mankey proceded to do so, effectively throwing Rattata a good couple of yards. "Ra...ta..." Rattata struggled to stay up, and pulled off a successful quick attack, but a quick series of Scratches downed the Rattata. "Rattata is out of the match!" The referee raised the green flag. "Ok...Angela, I choose you!" A cute pink Tangela popped out of the Pokéball. Mankey went to Karate Chop the Tangela, but it tripped just out of the Mankey's reach, and it missed, and slid a couple of feet on the ice. Angela procedded to Bind Mankey until it fainted. "Mankey is out of the match!" Red flag. 'Hrrm...well, that Tangela's a grass type, and this _is_ an ice field...' "Go Blaze! Ember that weed!" "Lithe!" Blaze spat sparks of fire at Angela, some of which hit Angela and started to burn her, some of which hit the ice and started to melt it. 'Hrrm...I have an idea...' Andrew thought. "Blaze, round Angela up with Roar! Ember it some more too!" Blaze proceeded to Roar at Angela. Of course, it didn't run off; that would be against battle rules. It _did_ start running, though. Blaze started rounding the single Tangela up like it might round up a herd of Tauros. The combined heat of a slowly burning Tangela running back and forth and around in a circle and the few missed Embers on the part of Blaze eventually... ...melted a hole in the ice. "Wow," said the announcer. "I haven't seen a move quite like this since League Champion Ash Ketchum and his spirited Pikachu a few years ago!" Blaze jumped to the floating island and proceeded to Bite away at Tangela. Their combined weight tipped the ice, dunking both underwater. Some light (from some Embers) flashed from beneath the surface of the water, and when the ice flipped over again, up came a drenched Blaze and an equally drenched, and fainted, Tangela. "Tangela is out of the match!" Green flag. Tangela lay on the ice, melting it a little more and making a small dent near the edge of the ice before being returned. "Tentacool, I choose you!" The Tentacool immediately Bound Blaze who, already weakened from his dip underwater, fainted without too much trouble. 'Perfect! There's just enough water to pull an Ash, and even better, Tentacool is part Water!' "Snicker, GO! Thundershock!" "Pi...ka..." The Tentacool knew what was coming...it could see the electricity from Snicker's cheeks... "CHUUUUUUUUU!" ...and it backed off, out of the way of the thundershock. Unfortunately, it slipped on the dent created by Angela and fell into the water. "Follow him, Snicker! Thundershock him again!" Snicker dived into the water, and true to the command, Thundershocked the Tentacool. Especially unfortunately for the Tentacool, since they were in the water, the Thundershock was many times more powerful. The resultant shockwave busted most of the ice and forced some of it out. Snicker jumped out of the water and into the ice, fainted Tentacool in tow, placed it on the ice, crossed its tentacles over its nonexistant "chest," and stood one foot on it, victorious. "Tentacool..." A collective gasp from the crowd... "...is out of the match!" The crowd erupted. The scoreboard flashed CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew, who himself was jumping for joy. Snicker jumped up to the platform and joined Andrew in his celebration. "And another terrific fight at the Ice Field goes to Pallet Trainer Andrew O'Reilly! I'll tell you, Joe, ever since Ash Ketchum's first battles in Indigo, Pallet Town has turned out some very talented trainers! Live, from the Ice Field, this is Thomas Jones..."
